VZ858 cleaning and sight adjustment

I just got my VZ858. I stripped it and cleaned it strictly according to the instructions using the rather quaint cleaning kit supplied. In spite of the muzzle protector I could not avoid knocking with the "oakum holder" (which, BTW, has rather prominent ridges) against the muzzle opening. This caused me near-physical pain :) I am so used to cleaning barrels from the breech end and this just went against all my training. Also, the rod and oakum holder are apparently steel as opposed to my normal aluminum kit.

Does everyone follow the procedures in the manual? Do you all use the prescribed WD40 or some of the more dedicated cleaner/preservatives?

There has been a thread in the past regarding cleaning the barrel after discharge of corrosive ammo. The recommendations included Windex and urine amongst other things. Do the above-mentioned modern cleaners take care of it by themselves (I have used Hoppes cleaner and Browning gun oil on everything so far)?

The other issue is adjustment of the front sight. I read both the Czech and English instructions, carefully inspected both the front sight assembly and the key provided for adjustment of the front sight but could not work out how such adjustments should be done. I would really like to know before I take the thing to the range.

Thanks for any help.

To be honest, I shot mine for the first time at the range today. I found with zero front sight adjustment, my groupings were about 2~3 MOA @ 50 yards. Very acceptable out of the box accuracy. To hit the paper like that, very good. My 50 yd shots were all within 3" without much effort. I am more than sold, and more than impressed with my cz. It had a lot more kick than my AR does, but I quickly learnt how to do it without hitting my cheek. I came home at the end of the day not only happily impressed, but wanting to keep shooting more with it. Very happy overall! VERY HAPPY!

I take mine apart and give it's internals a spay of windex for the corrosives and then srub everything down with a toothbrush and Hoppes. Then it gets lubed with WD-40. Quick, and works great, I use a boresnake for the barrel

If you're using corrosive ammo, make sure you use BOILING WATER. On everything, especially gas system. I strip mine down in a sink, and pour boiling water down the barrel, over the trigger group, everywhere. Then just clean as normal.

I'm wondering why not many people use water... it IS the best solvent for corrosive salts.

Mine has had 3 k rnds thru it and ive never used any windex or water if i bother to clean it it gets cleaned with clp nothing more and it has zero rust or pitting
