W209 primers

Fed 209 [no longer made] ,Cheddite 209 ,CCI 209 and Win 209 are interchangeable...........NOT FED 209A as they are hotter.

On the shotgun forum they mentioned using Cheditte primers can or may stretch the primer pockets on the hulls as they are a couple thou over standard size? Don't use them so unconfirmed?

The newer Cheddites are the standard sized. They are a bit hotter than Winchesters . The cups are thinner, meaning angled strikes from some O/U may cause piercing. Since they have been the only available ones for awhile, there is much discussion on them on shotgun forums. Rio and Foichi (sp)are said to be oversize, meaning once used, stick with them for those hulls. I used Chedites, then CCI with no problems. But my shotgun is semi-auto.

Thanks for the clarification.........I use Fed 209A and or Win 209 exclusively .Also have a 1000 CCI 209 .Buddies need primers and Cheditte is all that's available for now. I've reloaded Challenger .410 hulls previously Cheditte primed with Fed 209A's and they fit tight like the domestic primers so I suspect you are correct.

The dimensions below are not mine but will help
It is not the newer cheddites ALL being OK since it is the ones made for the UK market that make it here sometimes ( real bad years ago) that cause problems those are larger and yes allow winchesters etc to fall out if used in hulls. One has a black flash hole and one a red ( or did ) but I cannot remember which is the UK. I had both a few times
Not seen as common here today but still show up from time to time
With primers being scarce would not shock me to see more UK dimension ones in the future since better than nothing

Cheers

I use Fiocchi in my 28 gauge Fiocchi hulls, and they are larger than the Federal primers that I use in my other hulls. I have avoided the Cheddite hulls because about 20% of the Challenger loads that I tried suffered pierced primers. I managed to purchase 5000 more Federal yesterday, for $350, which is a bargain these days, but that was all that the vendor had left. Federal has informed vendors that there will be no more primers until late 2023 at the earliest. Cheddite prices are now around $500/case, if you can find them.

I have all brands on hand . I use a primer resize punch kit and if used properly with a little care I can work with most any hull primer combination . I use it on AA, REM , Fed , Fiocchi , Cheditte hulls to get a tight fit.

I just bought a couple of bricks of Cheddite primers. When I gassed up, I also bought a 649. Maybe I used up all my luck or it was my lucky day. I'll check one of these days, chuckle. I have bought Federal at $9.99 a flat.
