Does anyone have any data for subj powder in a .357?

I have over 3 lbs of the stuff and I can only find data for the .357maximum. If I can't find any data I was thinking of trying 9gr to start. All comments welcome.

tks in adv.

I consider 680 to be a little on the slow side for the .357 Mag., it is similar to AA1680, and Accurate Arms doesn't show data for it in the .357. Formerly W-W and now AA consider it a rifle powder for small cartridges, I use both in the .300 Whisper and it is ideal! In the .357, you would need a full case of it and still would not be getting the speed you want with the possibility of unburnt powder and "off sounding" shots.

Tks for your input Ben. My Speer #11 lists asl fol:

180gr TMJ
Powder Wt Vel
680 *12.8 973

* TRIM TO 1.275 and crimp over bullet shoulder.

But I was kind of hoping for data someone may have had for 158SWC.

I wasn't overly hopefull but I had to ask anyway.

Tks agn

"...If I can't find any data I was thinking of trying 9gr..." Don't be making up your own data. If you can't find data, don't use the powder.
W680 is a fast burning, small cartridge, rifle powder that has been discontinued.

I know what it is. I apologize for not mentioning the above data I listed is actually for .357Magnum silhouette. Which would do nicely in my Blackhawk. But since most I my shooting is with hand cast 158gr SWC I figured some old timers might have a recipe. (If you don't experiment a little you never would have heard of wildcats either).

I've got a pound of this stuff too, thinking about working up a load for 30/30 and cast bullets, but data is hard to find. I find it hard to believe that a powder is only good for one or two cartridges someone must have data for this powder in cartridges other than 22 hornet 357 max and 30 carbine.

Well, I guess that would be a good enough reason to discontinue it.

I think what the problem is W680 is a very fine Ball powder that needs to be in a small case full to the top to get proper ignition, I have a couple pounds that I use in a Hornet, it works very good.

Tried lighter charges and discovered accuracy to be poor, found that lightly compressed charges of this powder brought it to life. Higher pressures were needed to burn clean.
