Evening all,

I've finished prepping all the brass and am now about to start loading the 150gr FMJBTs that I have. I'm not interested in getting sub MOAs out of this rifle, nor am I going to go into competition with it. Maybe hunt some deer, but mostly unleash it at paper for the time being and want to get some good, consistent groupings with it (anything less than 1.5" for starters, if possible) :D

My question is, what load most closely approximates the military performance of this round? I have a boat load of W748 to use, so I'd prefer to load using this powder rather than going out and having to spend $ on another brand. I also have CCI LR primers as well to use up (came with the powder). The brass is mixed headstamp, which doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've read conflicting numbers about the "military" load, so I'm putting the question out there.

Thanks

Accuracy from reloading is essentially trying many different products/recipes until you find something that works in your rifle.

Hence conflicting results posted all over the internet.

try "m14 match loads" by glenn zediker-there may be something in the tables - i never actually looked as i consider the 150 as "too light" for my purposes, but it is possible- get out your manual, start and the bottom and do the ladder thing until you see pressure signs- probably somewhere around 45-46 grains with the 150- i know off the top of my head that the top end for my 14s is 43-44 of 748 using a 165-168, to give 2550 or a little better
and FORGET about your military loads- unless you have access to the same cases, powders, and bullets, it's not relevant anyway- they're also built for CONSISTANCY- ie the ability to fire in any rifle, not for groups or accuracy- look at the wide range of surplus sometime- some of it groups nice( lake city, radway green) and some of it is pure junk

Around 46 grains of W748 with a 150 grain bullet will approximate M80 ball velocities.
