Anybody have any ideas on the best way on how to go about bagging a few Wabbits? I have never gone rabbit hunting before and have the itch. thanks
 
The best possible way to do it is with beagles, if you don't have beagles, the second best is using snares. But if you want to go out and shoot them, do yourself a favor and use a .22, not a shotgun.

Gosh I used to hunt them quite a bit my friend had a Brittney that loved rabbit hunting down in the ST Kitts area!

We used to chace them with her.

I think this thread just made me intrested in a good rabbit hunt.
I will likely just walk and stock this time with a 17 hmr or my 20g if I am with others it has to be a shot gun.

"...using snares..." That'd be illegal in most places.
Walking a lot and stopping frequently in a likely habitat works without a dog. Ask the MNR about your area's population first. Bugs' population is cyclical. Read the hunting regs too.
 
I don't know where you live, But here there is hardly any rabbits around. Usually the ground is littered with rabbit tracks but not this year. I seen a couple this fall but I doubt I'll be out trying to bag a few, hopefully it's because of coyote infestation, that will keep me busy :)
 
Good way to get rabbits is to find a nice swampy piece of ground. Lotsa alders and shrubby plants. I used to get rabbits in SW Manitoba that way. Most ppl think that rabbits love dry open areas but I have found that you can get'im best in the swamps. 22 is what I used to use with a low mag scope. Shotguns are alright too but make sure you go for the head.
 
After the first snowfall, I realized that my grouse coverts are full of rabbits. Better chances for them at dawn or dusk versus midday?
 
Dig a hole about 5 feet deep, 2 feet across. Light a smallish fire in the hole and let it burn right down so there's only ashes remaining. Sprinkle a can of carrots over the ashes. When the rabbitt comes along and leans over trying to figure out how to get to the carrotts, kick him in the ash hole ! :D

I heard a similar one involving a polar bear, a can of peas, and a hole in the ice.
