Wacking Prairie Dogs in Wyoming

It looks like I may have an opportunity to go shooting Prairie Dogs in Wyoming this summer.
I have a Savage .30-'06 that I could load Varmint rounds for, my AR15 and my Ruger 10/22.
Are any of these guns 'suitable', or should I consider something else?

buy a low end Savage with a heavy barrel, in 223, and top it with a Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x scope

30-06 kicks too much

no on black rifles? I say 'go for it!' hell...its not like you can do that here! IMO it would add to the fun. Maybe use a 'proper' capacity mag. to boot!

if the AR is allowed to cross the border, take it, and buy as many of those winchester 45g varmint packs that you can find between now and then...

I shoot in Montana each spring but I use my buddy's guns I buy the ammo down south Much less hassle that way.

My AR is already on my Form 6, so I think I'll just mount a scope on it and try it out....It's as accurate as anything else I've got.

Prairie dogs the same thing as a Gopher?

I believe they are one and the same....smaller than a Groundhog/Woodchuck.

Prairie dogs look like gophers but are a lot bigger.

Gophers (Ground Squirrels) are little, Prairie Dogs a little bigger, Groundhogs MUCH bigger, by almost twice.

Take all three ,22 for up close, 30-06 for long range mortar fire and 5.56 for intermediate ranges and have fun.

FWIW in Montana, prairie dogs run in size from about the size of a pop can(gopher size) to rugby ball size, try www.varminthunter.org for more detail...
