I've shot about 3000 rounds so far, and noticed since using the 1250 FPS I'm getting some serious wad fouling.

Last night I cleaned it with Butch's bore shine three times, each time letting it sit for 10 minutes and used a 10ga bore brush... Still a bunch left but it's better.

I have ordered a 12 ga tornado brush but it won't be in til tomorrow.

Anything else I can try? My wife suggested using a kettle to boil water and pouring it down the barrel to soften it.. Which for someone who doesn't shoot actually kinda made sense...

Any ideas? Thanks!

Guess what? You really need to thoroughly clean your gun more often for the amount and type of ammo you're using. Not just a mop and wipe with a nitro solvent like Hoppes #9, but also a thorough scrubbing with a shotgun bore cleaner that removes plastic wad fouling, applied vigorously with a bronze bristle brush. Repeat until completely clean. An electric hand drill on your cleaning rod makes the job easier and quicker. Once you have it clean keep it clean.

wrap some 0000 steel wool around a brush, chuck it up in your cordless drill and it'll come out of there real quick!

T h i s !

It doesn't have to be cordless either... I was doing this long before I had a cordless drill... nothing quicker or easier

Some shotgun bore cleaners have a solvent that dissolves or softens plastic. I have some old Parker Hale product that does this. If I had to guess, I would say it contains some acetone.

When I shoot trap, I clean my gun every time I come home. A boresnake and some CLP down the barrels. Old grease gets wiped, new grease applied. Firearm is ready to go for next trip.

Be careful with acetone, it will melt plastic but use only in a well ventilated area. It will also damage some stock finishes if you are careless.

Question. You all mention “steel” wool what about “brass” wool

I wanted to ask the same thing!

Any opinions? Steel wool vs copper or brass wool?

I am using copper wool nowadays ... like Chore Boy .... but I realized that steel wool works better ..... i.e steel wool removes the lead or plastic deposits faster ....

But the question is .... will steel wool "damage" the barrel?

Will steel wool create a "polishing pattern" inside the barrel and that will just trap more lead or plastic fouling?

I think that brass or copper wool would work just fine but I haven't tried it. I use copper wool to remove lead from rifle barrels that I use cast bullets in so I'm sure it would remove plastic easily enough.
As far as steel wool damaging a shotgun barrel goes, if you left it in one place in the barrel and spun the wool with your drill for a few minutes then you might eventually do some damage but removing plastic build up only takes a couple of passes with the drill turning, the plastic cuts out of there very quickly. The job literally takes seconds, not minutes and a lot of guns these days have chrome lined barrels so it would take some effort to do damage to them with steel wool.

The 0000 is fine I would recommend only using a liquid product that has a oil type base g96 or some type of gun solvent not brake cleaner or carb cleaner or some such solvent that drys you need a lubricant of some type otherwise you may end up with micro sceptic surface scratches.
Also as mentioned clean every 500-1000 rounds

Work a damp patch with acetone back and forth a few times. Soft plastic from the wads wipes out in a dozen strokes.

Engine tuner like Amzoil Foaming enf=gin tuner or Mercury Quicksilver engine tuner is what I use, not a brake cleaner type of spray!;)
In fact Sinclair International used to sell Mercury Quicksilver !:)

 Hmm., do you have the best recipe for Ed's Red

And as mentioned earlier on does not need a cordless drill ...just many have swapped over to a cordless and forgotten where they stashed the ole Black and Decker from Christmas 1998 ;)

I'm sure there are several but I use the ones with 4 equal parts, one of them is acetone.

Someone also mentioned to be careful not to get it on the stock, which is good advice, but a Beretta O/U has a release that the rear stock , front stock, and the barrel comes completely apart in 3 seconds so there is no reason to have any would furniture near the solvent.
