Lately, I have been thinking more and more of getting one of those 'evil' black guns (poodle gun?). I really like the look of the short barrel versions, but I have a couple of questions for you good folk.

Is there a problem with action cycling with a short barrel?
How's the accuracy? (in general. Actual groups or more of a pattern)

I was surfing Questar's site, saw RRA 7.5" uppers and the "Ohhh mama....that looks sweet :D " gene kicked in, big time :D .

So, anyone wanna chime in with a bit of info for me?

Thanks

I've been checking these out too .... I'd like to see a picture with a buttstock installed on the 7" or 10" version ... anybody have one?

less than 10 inch is more likely to run into problems that need special tuning to overcome.

pigtail gas tubes, buffers and springs, noveske brake, gas port sizes, bolt group and the list goes on.

not a bad choice for a first AR, but a better choice is a 14-16inch to get started with. that way you'll have fun right off the bat, rather than trying to figure out what to do incase it doesn't go bang properly.

I've built two 7" and owned two Dlask built 10". All of these have been reliable, and they definitely do look cool. I prefer a full length recoil spring, with a non-extendable ACE or YHM skeleton stock. Robstar, If you want some pics of a 10" with an Ace, or of a Dlask Mini Moose, send me an e-mail address.
BUT ????
What exactly is the mission statement for a 7" or 10" poodle shooter?
When I chronoed 5.56 Win Ball out of my 20" and then my 7", the muzzle velocity went from 3100 fps to around 2100 fps, and the noise and blast increased EXPONENTIALLY!!

Do the math ... 55 gr bullet @ 2100 fps is good for ... what? Teacup poodles? Probably wouldn't want to shoot a full sized standard bred poodle with that ... might piss him off.

If you go that short, you might as well go 9 MM and throw out 125 Gr bullets at about the same speed. Or better yet, go .300 Whisper, and throw 240 Gr bullets. Both of these options will also give you a LOT less blast and flash. Or better yet, stick with 14.5" or 16".
Of course, YMMV.

PS: I have a Dlask 10" CQB, complete or upper only, for sale or trade in the EE. And my nephew has said he is not playing with the Mini Mosse much any more. Go to the range with your shorty AR ... you are sure to make new friends. Some of them will come running from 200 yards away, just to yell at you. And if you shoot near dusk, you can blind everyone around you.

Never had any issue running 10.5 and shorter,I don't use any of the fancy gadgets such as pig tails and such, they are not needed. Get what you want.
Barrel length is not a function of accuracy but velocity, which will limit the range of the firearm.
