I went to a local retailer and bought a couple guns and was told his suppliers were out of stock. he told me it would be about 60 days for each. sounds kinda long to me. was wondering if this is normal or if he is just worried I dont have the cash.

seems odd to me both out of stock and 60 days to deliver

I work in retail and this can be the same with everything. The retailer does not make the stuff. They only sell it and are at the mercy of the suppliers. I wish more people could understand that.

I think many do understand but wished that retailers would check before allowing a customer to place an order. That way they would be completely caught off-guard and would know what to expect.

I wish more retailers would understand that! :p ;) :D (It's all about perspective)

Ruger is having trouble keeping up. I'm on a waiting list for a new GP100. I'm not holding my breath. Might see it late summer if I'm lucky.
March 21, 2012

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR), announced today that for the first quarter 2012, the Company has received orders for more than one million units. Therefore, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.

Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer made the following comments:

The Company's Retailer Programs that were offered from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012 were very successful and generated significant orders from retailers to independent wholesale distributors for Ruger firearms.

Year-to-date, the independent wholesale distributors placed orders with the Company for more than one million Ruger firearms.

Despite the Company's continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders. Consequently, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.

The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012.

The Company will announce its results and file its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the first quarter of 2012 on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, after the close of the stock market.

What makes you think we don't check. If you read the first post you would see that he was told. Sometimes the info we get from the manufacturers and suppliers is not correct. Try working in retail sometime, you will understand what I mean. There are also unreasonable people out there that when told it could take 2 months or more to get something still look at us and complain as if we should go out the back and beat the elves harder to get the product faster.

I have worked in retail and know that no matter what industry there are a lot of lazy people in the workforce.

Listen, you can have this one. Retailers are always awesome and the best and their customers are total knobs. What keeps them in business again? LMAO.

P.S. I love the "we" you used. Stand united!

I am not saying customers are total knobs at all. Just remember that the old saying that the customer is always right does not apply any more. They are only right maybe 95% of the time. With the internet these days there are people out there, and I have experienced this personally, that will fabricate complaints and false stories as to how they were treated to try to get free stuff or some type of compensation out of retailers. I am done and out of here.

I had edited my post to make it sound a little nicer but you quoted me before the changes took effect.

Anyways, I can understand your point of view. It's a valid one.

P.S. You still sound a little stressed, lol, Mr. Done & Out! PeAcE!

Back to the topic at hand...

Ruger can't keep up. That's a good problem for them, I guess. At least until people look elsewhere for their needs.

Go to the back and beat those elves!
Especially if the product is produced internationally I think 60 days isn't all that bad. Much of this stuff seems to only be cost effective when ordered in bulk due to our silly import/export laws and all the taxes and fees. Would not surprise me if there are dozen or hundreds of certain things sitting in boxes waiting for the last few orders to make the profits fit. The distributers might have some minimum order amount of $50,000 before they'll pay to import it.

One of the local gun stores here sold a gun and threw in a magazine taken from the display model. Apparently it took a year to get a replacement.
I wish we had more Canadian firearms/accessory manufacturers.

I am a truck driver and know exactly where goods come from. if I was told 60 days to buy a 28" widescreen.....................I asked a simple question and it was answered. ruger is not able to produce thier orders so it takes time. my shotgun probably needs a container full to ship. feel free to educate me on shipping some more }=/

Enjoy the Weatherby. It and its brother the PA08 are among the sweetest shotguns going. You will need to have sling swivel studs installed. For some reason, they are on every model but the upland.

yeah.,ruger has allways been slow to ship, and now with everyone and their mommas buying up all the guns in Amerika (thanks obama),dont hold your breath..

Not out of line. If the Canadian distributor has one, then it might be a few weeks. If they don't then it takes time to get it into the country. I ordered a Marlin from Epps, and they told me "months" to get it in if the distributor did not have it. I called about 5 or 6 weeks after I placed my order, and was told they have a shipment of Marlins coming in the beginning of this week; my rifle *might* be with that order (fingers crossed! :D).
