Waiting for my Beretta 92S

There are a number of good Youtube videos about them. Seems there is a bit of complaints about the sights. Magazines may be hard to come by for it, which may need a little dremel work as Surplus 92S magazines are different than the standard 92 Beretta mags and not $5 a piece like our neighbors down south get them for. I have been looking at getting one myself. Excuse the pun, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have checked out a couple locally and they appear to have new barrels installed. I too would like to hear more feedback on these guys.
Compared to a 92FS, the "S" has the mag release lower, on the bottom of the grip - therefore the Beretta branded 92FS mags will work (have both cutouts), aftermarket won't unless you want to alter your existing 92FS mags.
I've heard that the "S" sights are black on black and not white dot like the 92FS, definitely a negative for me.
Otherwise, they're almost the same pistol.

The FS has a modification done to the slide so that in case of a catastrophic failure (extremely rare) the slide doesn't come back and hit ya.
Where did you get it for that price, on the EE? I've seen them for $559-569, which is too much money for a surplus pistol, in my opinion. I see them for $499 at a former sponsor that left in a cloud of turmoil a little while back...
I don't think these sold very well, to be honest. I see the 'surplus' dealers still having a lot of stock, for quite a few months now. Can get a new Girsan for a few bucks more...
st1246, bought through Bullseyelondon.com . They were on for $499 with 5% off for boxing day. They only had 4 left and it didn't take long to sell them. Happy to get one of them. They were the cheapest that I could find anywhere.
Awesome pistol I bought one and love it.....sights have me left wanting more but hey its a surplus gun. Also with what looks to be a new barrel it only shows carry wear and in perfect operating condition. Just need more mags and nice wooden grips.

Beretta's as awesome guns, love my 92FS Inox. but I have to say if someone spending ~500 for a surplus S model you'd be better off with a used Girsan 92 copy. I got one pretty much expecting to say 'I tried it, it was meh get the real thing' but I love the damn thing!! its a great gun.

As for the girsan option if I wanted a Turkish copy I'd buy one. Same as rem870 and da grizz...if wanted Chinese I'd buy that......
Now for the beretta 92s vs 92fs... sure I see the point it's a great gun and new but 10 years we will see the surplus sub 500 92s police trade in with some cool surplus history or the brand new cabelas special that's dropped from what 1200 new and the perspective used buy looks it over with a magnifying glass deducting money price along the way.....with a surplus 92s the damage is done can have fun for years an there will be no loss maybe even a gain. Not like investment gain but surely not brand new to second hand depreciation.

Fully agree on this Thefergs. I was looking at the Norinco 1911 45 ACP as as cheap new pistol as well. I felt the money put into the Beretta over time would be better.
I think the Beretta 92 (F)S along with the Sig P226 are great "collector" guns so when I began my collection, I just had to have them. I really enjoyed the Beretta and P226 as they were easy to take apart and learn basic gunsmithing; unfortunately, I was not able to shoot either of them as well as a 9mm 1911 or a CZ Shadow (the Shadow is not so easy to take apart). The Beretta looks and feels great but I could never get used to the long, stiff trigger pull. I hope your experience is better!

I'm not sure if the mod can be made to the 92s... as for what is done... google will be better equipped to explain than myself. What I do know, is that you shouldn't worry. The only slides that broke were shooting a large amount of +p+ ammo by some Navy Seals. These is so much BS around the Beretta it is amazing.

This, for the little price difference for a Girsan. I liked mine so much I bought a 92A1 the other day. Now, if things go right I may pick up a FS off of EE as well. Not sure where my head has been for the past few years. The Beretta 92FS is destined to be a classic. The RCMP would do a lot worse when it comes time to change. To simple and probably would make to much sense for the bean counters to deal with and perhaps to large for the fairer among the Force.
The S model's are nice to be sure and if Beretta mags will work in the guns then there is value there as well. The S might make a great bush gun for hiking in the US for those living in the US. Not up here of course.

going from memory, would have to flip open the armorers manual to %100 on what models it applies to. the old hammer pin had a flat on top that would allow the slide to come all the way rear if you had a failure, the new pin has a round top that gets caught in the notch of the slide if a failure occurs, this should have been changed out years ago if it was in m& P use, also locking block was upgraded inner corners are rounded, and trigger return spring upgraded to double coil, both are service items, (I have broken both on my 96 D)
