PAL test completed on Dec 2nd, RPAL test completed Dec 3rd. Right now it's the 5th week that I'm waiting for the results and I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a normal time to be waiting. I'm really eager to get on the range :D

I also have a question regarding references. A friend and I were in the same course and we wanted to use each other as one of our references, is that permitted?

Thanks!

Unsure about wait time for test results as we dont have to go through that process in BC. You can use your friend as long as you've known them for 3 or more years.

Depends how long your instructor waited to mail them to the CFO. I'd call. Know your instructors name and the date of the test as that is how they file the results. It's such a silly waste of everyones time to have to send our tests to Orillia for a stamp.

I wouldn't worry if I were you, I did mine around the same time and also still waiting for the results, I guess holiday season didn't help as it delayed the entire process...
Which range are you thinking joining / going to ?

Honestly I'm not 100% sure but I think I'll be joining Target Sports Canada, however at this point I haven't really heard of any other ranges near Toronto. If you know of any other good ranges please give me a shout.

Going over the Christmas/New Years holidays and backlog could add to the delays. Probably give it a week or two for them to catch up.

Did you submit your application form before getting your test results or are you currently waiting for your test results first before submitting the application? Hopefully you did the the former and already submitted your forms. If it is the latter, sorry buddy, but it'll be another 5-8wks before you get your license in hand.

As for using your friend as a reference... that's not a problem and perfectly fine. I did the same.

Welcome to the sport. I might end up joining Target Sports/The Grange as well, at least for the first year. Need to get some wheels first. ARGH!

Dec 3 - I sent Rpal App in with test result and confirmed arrival.
Dec 27 - called to confirmed that I didn't miss any question. No one was available at the time to do the interview and was told to wait another 2 weeks and call back.
:(

I didn't submit my application because unfortunately I don't have a fax machine so I can't fax the results over after I get them. I heard that doing that can actually make the process longer.

Congrats !

I did my Pal/Rpal last year as well, took 60 days to get the card in the mail. I'm guessing that's kind of average.
Shouldn't be any problem with having your friend as a reference afaik.

Once you get the card, give Silverdale a try, great range, and lot of helpful guys there. It's a bit of a drive from Toronto, but well worth it.

You can run into a Staples or Grand&Toy to fax it out or you can actually mail a copy to them via registered mail. Well, the good thing is that you can shop for firearms in the meantime, you just can't possess them until you get your lic. :p

I sent my ap with no safety course, not a big deal i faxed in the results the day i received them, only thing you need is the case number which you can only get once it shows up online so yeah maybe 1-2 day delay i guess, but at least you get the 28 day waiting process started once they receive it. Also one piece of advice dont listen to canada post employee, my buddy was told a regular stamp was enough, well it wasnt now he waits an extra 4 weeks. Dont cheap out and just pay for delivery confirmation/registered mail.

I also was thinking giving a try at Silverdale once I'll receive the card, you're right It's a bit of a drive, carpooling from Toronto might be a good idea...

That would be cool! Someone mentioned that their friend joined Silverdale and happened to have the safety course on the same day. If you get a supervised shoot after, I think you're pretty much a full fledged member and approved for LATT? THAT would be awesome.

I did my PAL and RPAL courses in Nov 2011 and had the license in my hand halfway through turkey season in May 2012. I believe it took 6 weeks to get the stamped results back from the CFO. I waited to receive both stamped results before sending my application in. As others have mentioned, send your application by registered mail so that you know when it is received and have confirmation of receipt. I also paid the fee by credit card so that I would know when my application was looked at. It took 3 weeks for my application to show up online on the RCMP website. Once it showed up online, I called the CFC to make sure everything was good on my application. After a week I called back in and was transferred to do my phone interview, asked for reference number and had my references phone in to do the phone interview. It took 45 days for my application to be processed and to mail me the card, others it takes less, others it takes longer. Once your application is in the system keep on them, I called once a week to inquire on the process of my application. Good luck, trust me waiting sucks!
