Back on track...
Turkey's are a good option there now. They introduced them over a decade ago and now have a two bird spring season. Good fishing for diverse species in the river. When i was growing up there they ran logs down the river, so no big boats but the logs had impacts on water quality for sure. As soon as they stopped we had musky come up from the Ottawa. Better walleye fishing. But of course bigger boats run the river now. I moved away about 20 years ago so my info is dated. I have hunted moose twice in recent years in the SEPAQ parks (not in Wakefield area though). It's by draw for residents only, but non-residents (me) can go as guests. It's not that cheap, but very enjoyable because you get exclusive access to a huge territory and a nice little cabin etc... Good way to start while taking the time to make friends with farmers/landowners (which is no easier or harder than anywhere else I've lived). Road hunting and trespassing seems fairly bad, or at least it did back then. While that sucks for the attitude towards hunters, it probably helps polite and honest folks knocking on doors to be legit. BTW, Wakefield is largely anglophone, as are most communities along the Gatineau valley for a fair ways up, if that's relevant to your buddy. And if he has kids, it's a great place to grow up - some really top-notch people come outta that place. ;-) LOL
Cheers,
