So many pictures of really nice antiques out there, but then lots of folks also have some really rough pieces that are, really and truly, not safe to shoot. They do show up at the gun shows and on the EE and people buy them - so let's see 'em.

This piece here that hangs over one of my shop doors is a Winchester '94 in either .30-30 or .32 WS (bore is too rotten to tell). It was pulled from the muck and mire of a bay north of here after spending Lord only knows how many decades under the Pacific Ocean. The area it was found was at one time, a busy logging camp. Not for decades though...

The barrel is so rusted it actually rusted right through and it is bent (probably from the tidal forces or logs rolling around after it got so thin from the rust). Mag tube is rusted off, it's held in place with bailing wire (by me). The guy who found it said there was some of the forend on it when he pulled it up with his crab trap ~20 years ago, but its gone now.

Anyway, enjoy...interested to see what other folks have for decoration...

I'll try to get a picture of Dad's family heirloom Model 94 Winchester in 30-30. It was burned up in a house fire, better than your's but not too much.
Cool BTW

There's a fellow at the Edmonton gunshows that has a display of relics found across the country - the usual muzzle loaders and random completely rusted out pistols, but interestingly a werndl found somewhere in Alberta, amongst other things.

It is not even worthy of being called a wall hanger. It looks like it should go directly to the trash heap. Is that running rust I see on the bulkhead below it?

Nice little piece of history. Keep her.
I get people with century old SXS's they call wall hangers, that are usually just fine old black powder shooters.

This is a great idea for a thread, I will try to add to it by taking some pictures of my 1899 model 94 WCF 30 that was used to beat a bear to death and broke the rifle.
By the way, does anyone know why so many rifles were treated that way (so I hear) was it because of ammunition being expensive or does it have something to do with ''one shot - one Kill'' ?

Excellent!

Not sure how common a practice that may have been... I've heard stories like that as well but have a hard time thinking it was common practice. Rifles were very expensive back in the day, I'd imagine most folks would want to protect 'em to a certain extent. In battle, that's a different story. And all that said, I have had some VERY beat up pieces so...who knows. :)

Got this for a wall hanger, cheap too, but the bores looked so good i couldnt help but to load up some BP, Pyrodex, and 777 shells. light-50gr each. string fired from behind the neighbours barn, boom!! i`ve taken it to 90 gr Pyrodex with 1.25 oz lead. and want to try buck and ball for coyotes. it did go on the wall till my new firing pins and retainers were made up, now it lives with her sisters in the safe. looking for another wall hanger

would love to find one like that trade gun jpc has..
