Agree with your "Upside", and as we speak, I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of my 'replacement' Marlin, as in post #44.

I use beautifully crafted leather butt stock covers made by a fellow named Jon Klein in the USA on my heavy hitter leverguns.
I stick foam rubber between the wood and the leather in strategic places to further cushion the painful "Mike Tyson sucker punch" to the cheek these guns can deliver.
I have a Miroku Winchester model 94 trails end levergun in 450 Marlin that would knock my teeth right out of my head from cheek slap without it.

Yes, problem was I was concentrating on the BFR I purchased from the guy and by the time I got round to the Marlin, the leather was gone. When the Marlin arrives, I'll try it as is to start with but I may try and locate the same leather he had on it.
I googled Jon Klein Leather and there is some stuff there of interest that may go well with my Winchester model 71 Deluxe.

It's possible if you have $25K USD just for the permit.
The air fare and all the rest is on top of that.
That was the 2012 price - probably more now.
The native Inuits keep the meat and you get the hide and head.
Gotta keep playing my 649 numbers.

Mine is a safari somewhere in Africa. In order for me to finance that, I would have to sell most of my collection and focus on 1 or 2 appropriate rifles, gear, etc. One day soon after retirement I will make that a reality.

I've said this several times before and there are others who will back me up...trips to Africa are much more affordable than people realize, especially when you realize that you can spend 4 or 5 years between the first booking and the final taxidermy payment. $5-$6K a year can be doable if you're disciplined. No, once you get over there you don't want to go shooting up the neighborhood unless you've got the excheqeur to do so but lots of worthy species are surprisingly affordable.
