They have the Boyds Oiled Walnut stocks for $75! I just received mine and it is good quality. Don is a good guy to deal with too. He told me he had about 20 left in stock last we spoke.

The original idea was to swap out the chu wood stock for the boyds and use that as the base platform. But now I am thinking of keeping the walnut stock in reserve, and just beat up the chu wood.

Ideally, I would love to get a macmillan stock from 45ACPKING, then I would bed it for sure, but funds are tight right now as I am doing an AR build. Maybe closer to the summer.

i got one of the finished stocks last week.. it does appear larger than the orig norc...

re the metal parts.. is the U shaped forend cap required? mine looks like it will need a fair bit of profiling to accept one.. where can i pick one of those caps up and how do they attach? thanks

They are called 'front stock ferrule'. You can buy them from Numrich Gun Parts. I epoxied my ferrules in place, since I am all about match rifles and not collector grade M14 boomsticks.

Hope this helps,
Barney

I believe the metal part you are referring to is the stock ferrule. It is normally crimped onto the stock so you would need to pry it off and then re affix to the new stock, or order a new one.
Dang, Hungry is just to quick!

Do you have to put this ferrule on the USGI synthetic stock too, and is that what your talking about Hungry when you say that you have to epoxy it in place, Thanks, Rodger

skimoe, most of the used USGI synthetics will have it already glued in place. It would not make much sense to pry one off once its mounted.

Will Numrich Gun Parts ship to Canada?...I am not too sure about this, has anyone dealt with them recently and had their order shipped promptly?...

Thanks.

Tried to order a butt pad and hand guard from Numrich a couple of months ago and they wouldn't ship anything for the M14 up here, received an email saying I needed a permit or something like that.

yup everything m1a is also labelled m14 at numrich... so it is thier policy to not export, due to export restrictions on M14 parts. They would not even take an order for 100 usgi fiberglass stocks , handguards and buttplate assemblies, even though i have a U.S. address to have them shipped to. They will not knowingly sell these parts to a canadian period. So i went through a different source for my order of usgi fiberglass stocks.
I have also dealt with stockysstocks through an ebay transaction for a bolt gun stock and the product and service were exceptional.

Boyd stocks are a little fat, but that's better than too thin. No real "inletting" is required to fit the front stock ferrule. You may need to file it on the outside with a simple flat file just to thin it down a bit. Real easy to do in a few minutes. I then epoxy'd it in place - not going anywhere now.
