Walrus defence thread

Where can I buy a harpoon gun? Are they restricted? do I need an ATT?

not restricted, no PAL necessary. the ones we use for Tuna might work...

WTF is this thread? It's hilarious - "Prairie Reticulated Walrus"? lol

I'd vote for a Lee Enfield with original wooden stock. It should do the job, and when the reporters arrive, I could chase and club the cute ones (reporters, not walruses :))

Are Jackalopes still a problem out there?

Sealhunter would know, i believe i remember a post where he said he's taken a few. but if it were me i'd want at the very least a .17HMR for a good 400-500 yard shot out there in them praries.. should be EXPLOSIVE!

I was gonna say African or European?, but i forgot about the Reticulated Prairie Devil. They say it kills more Inuit each year than a Hippopotamus.

Geez, I bet at least some Northern Canada dwellers are killed by the Hippos.....:p

"You're all way over gunned! My grand-pappy used to kill them prairie type walrusses with a sling shot and a mean stare! .22lr for walrus... Sheesh! Next you'll try telling me you need more than a .243 to kill a Bull Moose! Why, my grand-pappy used to ... "
I call BS, if I have learned anything on the internet(and I probably have'nt) it's that a .243 won't kill a full grown gopher. A .22 on the other hand, well that's been used to kill everything on the planet.
Where can I buy a can of walrus spray. I asked in WSS today but they said they did'nt have any. Canadian tire had some, but no-one had the keys to the cabinet!:D

Question: What is the difference between a Walrus and a Blueberry?
Answer: Blueberries are blue.

Question: What is blue and sits on top of a very flat Blueberry bush?
Answer: A Walrus disguised as a Blueberry.

Moral: When picking blueberries, always carry enough gun; you can get a terrible surprise when reaching for that next Blueberry.

I hope your name is Jerry, cause that was gold Jerry, GOLD!

An uncle of mine(half native) used to regularly hunt moose with a single shot cooey and we have it documented. Mind you he could sneak up behind you in crunchy snow and you would never hear him. His buddies called him "the ghost".
He developed a fondness for firecrackers and many of us suffered that one. At 60 he could jog 10 miles comfortably. They dont make them like that any more. Wish he had passed on some of his stalking skills. All if his kills had one eye shot out-usually the left. Packed it out himself too. Hunted and trapped alone for 30yrs.

:onCrack: Look! I'm the mainstream media reporting!!

That's baiting, and hardly justifiable as defence. I imagine walrus are like grizzly, it has to be actually eating you before you can shoot it.
Although it makes me think, I'd better not bring any tuna sandwiches when I'm camping this weekend.

I have had the same issue wondering what to pack for Rocky Mountain Underwater Elk. Not sure if I should get advice from Fish and Wildlife, or the Coast Guard.

I wouldn't want to try and stalk any of the Prairie Walrus, especially during the rut. Each testicle is 5kg and they have 3 each. Some indian friends of mine tell me that a 12 gauge slug won't stop a big bull that is blinded by lust. They don't die 'till they're done having their way with you!
