Walter PPQ verses HK VP9 .. trigger?

There is a way around the longer barrel, but it costs more.

Both my Match and my 5" had an advertised trigger pull of 5.6lbs. I tested both with a RCBS trigger pull gauge and both new were 5.6lbs exactly. I quick look at their on line catalog shows the PPQ 9MM line at 5.6lbs. They seem to be all the same. I can't tell the difference in pull or reset. Some may notice a change..I just can't. The PPQ triggers are about as good as it gets in a striker fired gun. I wish I had the talent to take advantage of the 1/10th" reset. Try as I might it just isn;t happening. ;)

Ppq. Prefer the Navy in either M1 with paddle or M2 with regular mag release. Really liked the HK as well, except I couldn’t use the paddle release very well. The one on the ppq is longer and you can use your middle finger. Really quick and slick. Actually prefer it slightly over regular button release.

I also like the CZ p10C. Mag release is a bit stiff and suppressor sights a bit tall. Trigger is good, reset is awesome. Really good striker fired pistol as well.

Ppq is still my first choice.

If you’re looking to get into IPSC I’d go Q5 Match. If budget is a concern then the PPQ 5” M2 is the next best. I’d avoid the M1 or any paddle style mag releases for IPSC. All you need to do is change the TRS out for a 3lbs pull. Check the Walther Forums and look for the 3lbs trigger mod. It’s simple to do.

I’m going to go with the PPQ , It appears to be the easiest to upgrade the pre travel.
The pre travel is more of a concern to me than the 5 lb trigger or faster reset.
Apex trigger states 40% less pre travel.
There are some good deals on the EE , that come with extra mags, holster,etc.

Check their website for cost as I did this a few years ago. You then have to get someone to import the barrel to Canada for you...OR... purchase a PPQ from an outfit that also does importation and have them swap barrels for you.

Ok thanks, I have the m2 navy and am not very fond of the threading. Might look into having the barrel shortened but a correct length drop in would be ideal

Good call. The trigger on my Q5 was good but the Apex trigger noticeably reduced the pre-travel.
 
You won’t be dissapointed...that said I prefer the HK..with the exception of the 2x4 gripped USP..they are fine pistols indeed..
 
I must say I am confused. I have two PPQ's the Match and the 5". Yes there is pre travel for the first shot, but then you get a 1/10th " reset and the second pull you are on the wall. How fast do some of you shoot? You are limited as to how much movement is required before the break by the need to push the FPB out of the way. I suppose the Apex can lesson this distance somewhat by rounding the FPB but from a practical point I am not sure what you achieve for the cost.

I have the M&P Pro with the Apex Competition Kit installed and for all the reduction in travel, removal of gritty feeling etc found in the factory set up I have not seen any significant reduction in my timed scoring.

I totally agree, with regards to the PPQ, the APEX is not the holy grail of an upgrade. The factory / stock PPQ trigger is that awesome, especially after it's broken in and possibly with a lighter trigger spring.

Rich I have not tried the reduced trigger return spring but replacing the spring would certainly get the pull down to sub 4#'s. Both of my guns started out as advertised ie 5.6lbs. With use guys report the pull will reduce to under 5lbs. Being more experienced,aka old fart, my reflexes are not what I think they once were, so I am satisfied any speed deficiencies I have lie with the shooter not the gun.

Sometimes we forget how talented you have to be in order to get much advantage out of some of the "improvements" we do to our guns. Reduced trigger pull, though, does help with the longer shots for sure.
