Would any one know what the letter E means in a Walters p 38 frame ser.# 26xx E 208. That is all the info I have on it. I tried Google but no luck. Thanks for any info

They were built in 10,000 block serial at the beginning of each year. So the first was 1 to 9999 no letter prefix. The next were 0001a to 9999a, 0001b to 9999b and so on.

So 26xxe means that it was the 526xx pistol built that year (AC 40 means 1940, AC 41 means 1941 and so on.)

Could this have been re-serial numbered? I've seen one where some clever boy machined all the lettering off, including the P38 description, re-blued it, then applied a new serial number with five numbers, rather than the correct four. Was originally an AC 42 before Bubba got his hands on it and put a (total BS) SS rune on the slide.

I finally got the frame. The markings

Left side front 2699-E, in the back left side # 208-Z. On the top of the frame front left side looks like a upside down V 4239.

Right side back DE 2017

That is all there is on the frame . It is a steel frame. Hope this helps.
