I'm not sure what I have here - a Moving Target/Running Boar KK 22LR?
I recently chanced upon this rifle on line and bought it immediately - A risky decision given its age and uncertain history.
When the rifle finally arrived from inter-state, I cleaned the bore and took it to the range for an initial function/accuracy test. It was immediately apparent that I had a shooter on my hands and it functioned perfectly.
I then stripped the rifle and cleaned everything and was surprised to find that the barrelled action was in remarkable condition given that it's nearly 4 decades old. The stock finish was deteriorating and there was some superficial damage to the wood. The barrel weight was also missing.
I decided to restore this rifle and have just finished re-assembling the component parts.
A special "Thank-You" to a couple of members here who provided detailed measurements of the barrel weight so that a clone could be machined to fit.
The package also came fitted with a Burris 4-12AO scope of the same vintage which is in near mint condition. The turrets are interesting in that they are friction adjustable with no numbers or clicks - One hash mark appears to be .5" at 100 yards. I've been running this scope on a 1710 to check tracking and ability to hold zero and it functions perfectly. I'll probably re-mount it on the Walther once I complete some accuracy testing with a higher power variable.
I'll let the pics speak for themselves - This is a quite rare and well built 22 and I like it...A lot!

Is that a ss Anschutz bbl on your 1710?

Yes, it is - These were offered for sale down here in Aus for a couple of years but the importer no longer lists them in inventory. I scored this 2010 version also - All factory - I've only ever seen a couple of these:

I have a Walther Running Boar 150th Anniversary edition. You will enjoy this rifle. I was having a real giggle with mine last week, pegging the 275m 12" Gong.... 97/100 rounds. Zero for 100m, and 2.75 mdots down on 8x on my Sightron 8-32x56 scope.

Almost boringingly accurate if there is such a thing. In the gopher patch, your biggest enemy is mirage and wind.

These rifles thrive on LRN 40gn ammo. AE5022, Federal Match 40gn, and the higher end stuff SK seems to work the best.

Congrats on a GREAT find.

Nice job!! Beautiful rifle!

Mine is missing the barrel weight. Walther has made some nice rimfires!!

Does the weight just slip on and have a screw to keep it in place? Also I hate to ask but how much was the reproduction?

Here's what my barrel looks like. I didn't see any indications of how the barrel weight fits on. I seem to recall the original was plastic? Did it just slide on and stay b friction?

Just a heads up with the Federal Match 40 grain. There are two different loads. One is the same as the AE 40 grain, only more consistent and the other is a different load. I believe the 911 one is the American Eagle load. The 711B is a different charge. In my Kimber SVT the 711B shoots exceptionally well. The other shoots like slightly more consistent American Eagle 40 grain.

Lapua SK seems to work very well in all my Walther rifles. Not so much in my Kimber though.

I also read somewhere that the weight was plastic. I'm "old school" and like metal on quality rifles so went with mild steel - Easy to machine & takes hot blueing well. Pictured below is my drawing of the weight - Not to scale!
My barrel measures .865" (no taper). The weight was drilled 22MM and is a good fit and can carefully be slid on to the barrel without scratching the blue.
I could clearly see on the underside of my barrel where the weight had originally been held in place by two cup point grub screws.
I'm yet to verify whether the weight may change the harmonics of the barrel so installed it using a pair of nylon spacers - Bad move as it moved forward under recoil! I've now punched out two 4MM lead spacers and ground the cup points off two grub screws - This has tightened up OK and shouldn't mark anything but I haven't actually done a session to see how it all goes.
This fellow machined and blued the weight. He has done a lot of work for me and his stock restoration skills are up there with the best: He charged A$150.00 and I was more than happy with that. Any decent machine shop could turn one of these & a well prepared cold blue job would suffice.
Hope that helps,
Allan.
P.S. Thanks once again to the Canadian who provided these measurements - I didn't think to ask whether his weight is plastic or metal!

That's practically a thread on it's own!! Thank you for sharing.

One of our local silhouetters fabricated a thin-wall nylon or polyethylene sleeve, slit full length to allow for the constriction. Fitted over the barrel for the set screws to bear on otherwise they tend to mar the barrel.
