Basic Information:
The Walther HK G36 .22LR (Walther G36) is a .22LR replica made by Carl Walther in Germany, most famous for their handguns and competition rifles. Walther produces the HK G36 under license from HK so all licensed HK trademarks are applied to the rifle. Umarex which may be mentioned in connection to the G36 line is the Parent company to Walther where the rifles are manufactured but on a completely different production line due to factory space shortages in the main Walther Factory. Thus these rimfire replicas are not made with airsoft grade plastic except where it isn't structural.

STOCK FOLDED: 28.2” (716mm)

BARREL LENGTH: 18.1” (460mm)

MAGAZINE CAPACITY: 10 / 20 / 30 Rounds

The main differences of the Walther G36 compared to the Ruger 10/22 archangel nomad stock system is while the 10/22 is encased in a G36 lookalike shell, the Walther G36 is the actual rifle.

  • Charging handle reciprocates like the real G36, and is also ambidexterous
  • Safety is ambidextrous and not using the rugers crossbolt
  • Take down is simple and very similar to the G36
  • The barrel is solid and not a pencil barrel inside a sleeve.
  • Magazine release is on the side unlike the G36 which is a paddle release.

Miscellaneous information.
  • The barrel is threaded 1/2 x 28, with the flash hider pinned to the barrel requiring tools to remove
  • This is mishmash of 2 rifles of a G36 in barrel length, but a G36K length hand guard and ships with the export carry handle instead of the standard G36 optical carry handle.
  • The rifle has a fake gasblock hidden under the handguard which makes it a little difficult change the handguard.
  • No external bolt release but the manual bolt hold open is located in the trigger guard.
  • There is a forward assist capability; slide the charging handle to either side and push towards the middle. This will lock the charging handle at 90 degrees and allow you to forcible push or pull the handle
  • Last round activates the bolt hold open, so you should never get to dry fire the rifle when the magazine is empty. You will need to pull the charging handle back as there is no external bolt release.

Magazine capacity:
This rifle typically ships with and is designed and manufactured to use the Walther HK 416 rifle/pistol magazine thus it is limited to 10 shots. The Colt M4-22 rifle magazine (which is a different rifle and magazine) can also fit into the rifle.

RCMP FRT Table said:
Canadian Law Comments
- G36 model uses the magzine from Heckler & Koch Model 416 "family" of firearms.
- there are large capacity cartridge magazines available for the Heckler & Koch Model 416 "family" of firearms.
- these firearm Models are manufactured in both rifle and handgun configurations. The cartridge magazines are advertised by H&K as interchange between the rifle and
the handgun; all H&K Model 416 Cartridge Magazines are considered "handgun" magazines. As handguns are limited to a ten shot magazine capacity in accordance with
the CC PART III, S. 84, Regulations PART 4 Para 3. (1) (b) "The Former Cartridge Magazine Control Regulations", this limits the magazine capacity for both the rifle and
the handgun configuration of the H&K Model 416 to ten (10) shots, despite the firearm being designed to use rim-fire ammunition.
NOTE:
- the Heckler & Koch cartridge magazine for this firearm at 10 shots capacity, H&K 416 Part Number 2245300 is an acceptable "handgun" magazine.
- the Heckler & Koch cartridge magazine for this firearm at 20 shots capacity, H&K 416 Part Number 2245301 is a "prohibited device" unless reduced to ten (10) shots
capacity.
- the Heckler & Koch cartridge magazine for this firearm at 30 shots capacity, H&K 416 Part Number 2245302 is a "prohibited device" unless reduced to ten (10) shots
capacity.

So do not possess an HK 416-22 magazine with more than 10 rds because it is a prohibited device.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer so I only offer these magazine capacity comments as information for you to decide on the legality of magazine capacity.

Popular mod:
Due to the design of the magazine release and if you are used to an AR-15 manual of arms it is recommended that you reverse the takedown pins from left to right to right to left as you may feel yourself pushing out the takedown pins a little if you try to “release” the magazine.

The Jing Gong G36 series rear sight fits and can easily replace the Walther G36 rear sight. Oddly enough the airsoft version is feels better and is better constructed with the iron sights locking into the 100/300 flip positions. For some stupid reason the left/right windage is adjustable with a TORX head screwdriver instead of the more common hex.

Trigger pull and short function range report:

Quick short range report.

Testing out the rifle I fired 250 rounds of .22LR HV ammo, mixed between Federal automatch, CCI mini mag, and CCI AR Tactical. 1 Failure to chamber 1st round, flawless running otherwise. Rear sight is too adjustable as it does not lock into either flipped position potentially leading to small inaccuracies. I didn't try a group test as I know I'm a lousy shot standing and I didn't have time to do it justice but I would guess about 8" spread at 25 yards. I was pulling the trigger quickly just dumping rounds for function testing, do not take this guess as an accuracy test.

Trigger:

Definitions used

The trigger has a 0 weight short take up, before it hits the wall then it breaks cleanly with no steps or creep.

Yes, but I ordered mine 7 months ago. It was the sample rifle that was submitted to the RCMP for classification.

Which I finally picked up today.

Looks cool as hell, fairly solid polymer so not airsoft grade plastic. Folding stock is stiff so I might need to lube it up a bit.

Wish theyd bring them in as restricted rifles and avoid this. They did it with the mares leg calling it a rifle here and pistol in tbe US.

I mean the HK 416 is already restricted by being an AR-15 variant, so these people just wanted the really short barrel version from the US. In any case its still a werido ruling since rifles can't be handguns unless reasons. See the VZ58 pistol

Thats centerfire... this is rimfire...I am now confused.

I mean its weird how center fire rifles can't be handguns, as shown by the VZ 58 ruling so VZ58 handgun magazines don't exist. But rimfire rifles can be handguns (10/22 and charger, HK 416 rifle and pistol) thus limited by handgun capacity. So weirdo rules w/e.

Anyways I'm hoping the other Walther G36 owners can chime in on this thread when they get their rifles, and if there is any pertinent information that people want to include in the OP.

Very confusing, its a rimfire rifle that looks like a G36, is non restricted but the quote is all about the restricted 416 Centrefire.

Walther also made the HK 416 in .22LR in a rifle and pistol format.

EDIT: technically speaking it should say Walther HK since Walther makes the parts, HK is just the licensing name.

I haven't been overly thrilled with any of the Umarex made offerings to date. I mean they are OK, but none seem like they are made to last. Poly and cast potmetal, sleeved barrels, plastic rails, etc.
I guess looking cool is very expensive lol.

Is there a manufacturers website for this rifle and other licensed .22 reproductions made by Walther? I tried the Walther's site, tried HK's site and Urmarex and nothing comes up period.

I think Walther doesn't have the trademark license anymore, this rifle first came out in 2015 with other HK offerings from I think 2012. Walther or HK probably decided to not renew the trademark license, and thus the web is stricken free of HK branded Walther items.

Thats why I'm trying to preserve as much information as I can scavenge from forums, and videos in case they decide to disappear.
