I decided to go ahead and refinish my Dad's old LP 53 to resemble the famous "James Bond" gun with the help of my kids. I'm betting he would have liked the finished product.

It started in this condition .... ( also see other thread ) http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344948

.... and now, it looks sweet ...

I started by fixing the barrel with Brownell's Gun-Kote flat black

.... then I used a rough finish paint marketed for redoing metal outdoor furniture for the receiver sides and top ...

.... then finished up with plain ole' Gloss Black Krylon for the grips ...

....and the finished profile ....

....... now , just have to make a display plaque like this one to finish it off ..

.. and everything will be good. :)

The kids had a good time helping out by bringing my supplies and tools as I prepped it for finishing. My Daughter actually sprayed the grips for me. I made it a group effort, and now they call it "Papa's Gun" ( that was their name for their Granpa ). I think it was the right choice for us, and it turned out better than I expected. Going to give it a few weeks for the various finishes to cure completely, then the kids an I will set up a "range" in my workshop and give it a go. They are quite excited about it.

I'm glad I didn't leave it in the ratty beat up condition it was in. It now has a new life and legacy with my kids.
