One thing I ran into after I bought a pair of Walther PPQ's was mags for the guns, while available, were not cheap. I discovered on the Walther forum the mags for the Beretta 92 and Sig 226 were shaped the same. If you cut the holes for the mag release to match the Walther PPQ the mags would work. I had my 'smith do the cutting on three of my 40 cal Beretta mags and they work just fine with one exception. The follower on the Beretta mags will lock back the slide when the last round rises to be chambered. The follower is shaped slightly different on the Beretta mags and it hits the slide stop lever. For use as practice mags holding 9MM rounds they work fine. If you have a Beretta 92 and are looking to add to your gun safe with a Walther PPQ this might give you a source for extra mags.

canik tp9 mags fix and function perfectly without opening the mag catch but the mags are longer

To be clear the Beretta mags require new mag cuts not just opening them up. The Beretta mags are longer than the Walther as well. If you don't have Beretta mags than the Caniks are a nice option.
