Hi everyone,

I went to the range today, matter of starting the weekend on a good note... So, I started shooting with a buddy and my wife. Long story short, I gave my Walther P22 to my buddy so he can enjoy it compare to his mosquito.... A few rounds down range, I hear him screaming to me.. Turn around, he's pale like a ghost and start talking me down... I was wondering what went wrong.. He showed me my Walther and there it was... The slide tore in 2 pieces ejecting the back part about 10 feet behind him...

I looked at that, almost new in the sport, I never saw that EVER!!

Let's say that we were both happy that we always wear our ballistic glasses... He did not get injured and after that, we were both laughing our a** off!!!

For everyone to enjoy!!

As soon as I got back, I immediately called Walther USA and we'll see what will happen on Monday(the international sales clerk was away). Anyways, they sell the complete slide assembly for about 47$... Yay!!

*****UPDATE*****

I finally got news from WALTHER USA... They can't ship any "major" components of firearms to Canada. So, I went on the Walther Germany website and they directed me to their retailers in Canada (there are only 4). I sent them emails and 1 replied the next day, the other one 1 week later and still waiting for the other ones. I was also ordering a few other parts. Anyways, the total amount of the order was over 200$ (1 slide, 1 stabilizer, 1 recoil spring, 1 barrel nut and 1 worm screw). Total: 206$ As soon as I got their email, I looked at the EE forum in pistols and found a p22 @ a really decent price and bought it!!! For a few bucks more, I got a full pistol for extra parts!! I'll be using the newer one and I'll keep the old one for parts if I ever need any!! I will also bring the frame to the cops so I can get it unregistered. Well, that's what a lady from the RCMP told me to do!!

April 24th...

Got an email from Walther Germany about 5-6 weeks ago. They say that they would send me a new slide at a good deal. I replied: how long, how much, how do you want me to pay and this is my address.. Their answer: Soon, free of charge, no payment and thank you for the address! That's what I call GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! 3 weeks after the reply, I got the slide in the mail totally free of any charge.. no shipping, no custom fees.. NOTHING!! Quite impressed and pleased of their customer service. Golden!!!

your friend is lucky. im glad no one was injured. just remember always carry a spare pare of underwear in your range kit. you will never know when you need it.

to post pictures click on the little picture icon of the hill above the box you type in when writing a message. copy and paste the link of the picture you want to post from photobucket or who ever you use to host the pictures.

No problem
Just click on the "IMG code" box on your Phototbucket page, then click on yellow "insert image" icon, when prompt box pops up, delete contents and right click & paste...................:)

Holy crap batman!!!!!!

I have no clue what could cause such a major failure...

But at least now you have a good reason to buy a BERETTA 92 or a BERETTA M9

That is not a catastrophic failure. That is simply what happens to P22's after some use. LOL

This is a well documented issue with these guns. A simple google search turns up plenty of results.

There is more.

Wow.
Honestly, who would sell a gun like that? There is so little material making up that slide. it's .090" thick max. Aluminum at that!!
I thought i heard of that problem happening to the Mosquito

looks pretty catastrophic to me...

To me this would imply that something catastrophic happened. Nothing catastrophic happened here except the gun is made terribly. Just because it happened while shooting doesn't make it a kaboom. You could have taken it out of the box like that. Does that make it a catastrophic failure? Nope just poor quality materials, and engineering. LOL

I believe that this instance meets the very definition of a "catastrophic failure". I often consider it when your firearm has a malfunction that damages the firearm beyond immediate repair. But I do see your point, it had a catastrophic failure because the gun was not of the best quality...

Does this happen with the P99 series as well, or specific to the P22 only?

When I try to backup my files on my computer, it will start the backup process for about a minute or two, then I get this error: catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF).

My dad called me a catastrophic failure, but I think we're talking about guns champ.

Just the P22, the P99 has a proper steel slide.

Great, I really want to try one, they look like they would be pretty solid on the range.

I don't like it when manufacturers use 'pot-metal' in guns.Is it die cast? I am not a metalurgist. That is why I stayed away from the GSG, I have a feeling that some of these issues may crop with it also.
