I have a friend who inherited a wartime bring back Walther P-38.
The estate is looking to sell it.
Pictures he sent me show markings Affenwampt 359, and ac
43.
I would appreciate any information on value of this gun as I am not at all familiar with it.

Thanks, John

They seem to sell for roughly $650-$1000 depending on condition. Whether or not all parts are matching will also be a factor

The AC code makes it an actual Walther produced pistol, so towards the higher end of the $650-$100 range, depending on condition. If you have both magazines that were issued with it (the stylistic eagle over 359 waffenamt on the lower spine of the mag), or at least two Walther made magazines (they weren't serialized), the prices moves toward the top of that range. Considerable increase in price if it comes with a wartime manufacture holster - there were numerous approved holsters for the P38, from a wide range of leatherworks.

If user Purple is still around, he's forgotten more about P38's than most of us will ever know, but I wouldn't pester him, unless you have good pics of the gun in question.

Buy it if you can, they're nice pistols. Fit the hand nicely, and generally good shooters. Just keep in mind to feed it reasonably mild NATO spec 9mm ball. A diet of hot 9mm has been known to crack the slide.

doesn't a 12.6 prohib die with the owner if no direct family member with RPAL cant accept the transfer?

P38 is just restricted, not 12.6

My mistake guys. I thought it would be same as myP08.

The Walther P38 has a 125mm long barrel and your P08 (Pistole 08 Parabellum) has only 100mm long barrel which is below the 105mm threshold for a prohibited classification. That's why the P38 is classified as restricted.

12 (6) handguns if properly registered
can be sold/given by the executor of estate to a person with a 12(6) PAL
must be a will / executor
calls and some forms to CFC
sometime a new verification?
purchased some that way.

If it was made before 1946, it can be passed on to someone with a restricted PAL and they get 12 (7) to possess that specific pistol.
