Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting one of these but don't really know too much about them. It is a 1980 manufactured pistol. It doesn't have the hex bolt. It's used. Also not sure on their price range.

Also, if anyone knows of a gunsmith or a refinishing shop where I can get this pistol refurbished or plated, any help would be appreciated.

I live in Toronto.

Eric.

They were $300 a few years ago in good-very good condition. The new batch Tradex has are excellent and $500 now but come with a holster and spare mag.
I have one of the first batch, they are OK pistols, nothing special or spectacular about them..

My father has a Nazi P-38 vet bring back. If it wasn't for the history of it I'd have no interest. It's a nasty little pistol for actually shooting.

I've had one. Feel nice in the hand. About a million parts (er, about 120 if I recall correctly including 11 springs). Just wow.

Mine didn't shoot particularly accurately. In fact they had a reputation for being good for "eight warning shots plus one aimed throw”. Lol.

I wouldn't invest that kind of money into this particular handgun. If you want one buy it but it's nothing special.

I bought one because it was a cheap semi-auto 9mm to remove the firing pin for Restricted Firearm Safety. Took it to the range first. Shot quite low. If I was going to shoot it regularly I would have taken a file to the front sight. Interesting pistol design. The P-38 was first military issued double action with decocker safety. Worth it to me for instructional purposes. For a range gun - not so much.
