Walther P1/P38 Extraction Issue

Any walther P38/P1 owners out there that might be able to help me out?

So I recently acquired a walther P1 pistol, supposedly new and unfired. When I tested loading and feeding with snapcaps, I noticed it had this extraction issue where when pulling back on the slide, the extractor would lose grip on the case rim.

Note that is not my pistol, but exactly the problem I am having.

After disassembling the pistol I concluded that it is the loaded chamber indicator that is pushing the case out of the extractor's grip and removing the LCI fixed the issue. Will the pistol function fine without the loaded chamber indicator?

However I have heard that this issue only exists with manual cycling and not when firing. Is this true?

I hopefully will be able to take it to the range this week, unfortunately some bumbo t-boned me and I cant make it to the range until I get me some wheels (woo, life obstacles!).

Slow, fast, soft, hard, when the LCI is installed on the gun it just lets go of the cartridge after pulling it out no more than half way no matter the speed or intensity.

Shoot the gun then get back to us....firing isn't the same as hand racking and pissing around with snap caps.
Don't remove the LCI, SHOOT the gun, it will work fine.

You will probably find that the recoil from the fired case pushing the slide back has a different result than pulling the case out by racking the slide. That said, mine (1944) works fine with snaps.

Check the extractor area is clean and go try firing it.

Some of the early Bergmanns did not have an extractor.

Two things, extractor spring is weak or extractor claw geometry is not right. It happens.
Remove extractor from its nest, degrease, clean, lubricate al the parts. Put it back in and test again.

Already did that, I have already figured out it is the LCI that is causing this issue

Then maybe something inside is wrong. Does all of the parts look like in this picture?
Maybe springs are not right or assembled wrongly. Load indicator should not have enough resistance to disengage empty casing from extractor claw puling on it.

Take the cover off and make pic of inside, you see that funny looking FP spring. There is only one way it should be positioned. People often do not know how.

Ah, OK then you do not have issues with your P1. For a moment I was under impression that you are troubleshooting and was trying to help.

well like i said, the shell loses grasp on the cartridge when cycling the slide, but everything is in place and assembled as it should be.
