Walther P1/P38

I'm considering picking up a P1 or P38. Any good or bad experiences out there? Which is better the P1 or P38? How do they compare size wise to say a 1911 double stack? I have small hands. Would it be a good fit?

They are an interesting gun. The leftward ejection tends to throw off a new shooter for the first couple of rounds. They look nice but I find the ergonomics are terrible. My buddy has one and we can not get it to shoot tighter than 8" patterns at 25 yards. The frame is smaller than a double stack 1911, I have medium sized hands and it feels fine.
