Walther P22 question (Barrel related)

They have more! It's $35 more than a P-22, but I thought that it might fit my hand better and I don't have to engineer anything to clean up the looks. The little barrel extension sticking out (which is a thread protector overtop of the pre-threaded barrel) still kinda bothers me so maybe I'll get a fake can someday. A fake can wouldn't necessarily have to be as long as the functional one depicted in this photo.....

My goodness, that is SWEET: if Wolverine Supplies do trades, I may just have to follow your lead. :D

As promised, the pictures and measurements of the barrel, outer barrel and thread protector:

All measurements are in centimeters...

That thread protector is more than a thread protector.

I've been lead to believe its an integral part of the barrel, if I'm not mistaken, its what keeps the barrel attached to the pistol. That nut puts pressure on a sleeve holding the barrel.

I would be careful with any modifications to the P22 barrel especially if its just for the "cool" factor.

In the "Pistols and Revolvers" section I did a thread on the P22 and Mosquito awhile back. Many of you have probably seen it already, but here it is anyway:

Lots of people shoot their P22's in "P38 mode" without the fake compensator. I would actually recommend this, as I hated the comp on mine. They always come loose. I had the barrel on mine cut down to the legal limit, and I have loved the gun ever since. I've got about 25,000 rounds through mine now. Any questions you have about these guns, feel free to ask me. I'm not an expert but I've spent a ton of time with mine.

The above comments are correct about the "threaded barrel". In order to attach a fake can to the pistol, you would need a set up that has both threads to attach the can, and threads to secure the barrel and barrel sleave to the receiver. The way they do this in the U.S. is with a little device that has threads on both sides. It replaces your stock barrel cap and has threads sticking out the front to attach the can. They used to have these on ebay all the time and probably still do. In terms of getting a fake can that covers up the "stick out" part of the barrel... that is a uniquely Canadian issue and you will have to get a gunsmith to make it for you. Probably just start with a regular fake can, cut the threaded end off of it and put that inside the can to the desired depth and weld it shut.

This is what mine looks like partly disassembled.

Mine was done by Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces in Delta, B.C. You can find his website if you google him. Barry does excellent work. The only downside for me was that it took me about 4 months to get my gun back.
