Walther P22

Recently I had a Walther P22 slide break into 2 pieces while target shooting, the largest piece flew backwards and struck me on the right side of my nose, injuring me and damaged my shooting glasses. A very scary incident. Has anyone else had a similar Walther experience and what occurred after the accident?

It is a well known problem... Glad your ok. Maybe voice your concern to walther?
I think gravel agency does warranty and about 99.9 chance they will give you a new slide. You'll need a rma# and let them know the problem. Ship them the slide and they will send you a new one.

Seems like it may have to do with the slide hitting the barrel cover on the longer barreled guns.
 
Finally got a message from Gravel agency. They do not handle anything walther according to them. I can't get any help in Canada except European arms in Vancouver who want over $200 for a new slide. Walther USA will give me a new slide but they can't ship to Canada. I'm getting more and more frustrated with this gun.
 
After what seems like an eternity, I eventually got Walther to replace the slide free through one of their distributors, (European Arms, Vancouver). They originally wanted to sell me one for $200. but after many emails and phone calls, Walther Germany instructed European Arms to send me one free of charge. For some reason, they dragged their feet on this replacement for a couple of months but finally shipped it to me. Walther , USA, is facing some pending lawsuits over people suing them because of injuries and damage caused by the slides breaking because of defective poorly engineered material.
 
I suspect that both Walther and Sig regret ever putting their names on these pistols.

The P22 is manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen so it would be silly for Walther to sell the P22 under a different name than "Walther"!
I don't quite understand what Sig is supposed to do with it? Sig never puts its name on the P22.

The Sig Mosquito was/is equally craptastic. Same zinc/aluminum slide construction and the same fracture issues.

It's my understanding that both Walther and Sig had other manufacturers make the P22 and Mosquito respectively, and merely attached their names to the poorly made results.

Regarding the Walther P22 your understanding is completely incorrect. The Walther P22 has ALWAYS been manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen, nobody else.
The Sig Mosquito was originally manufactured by the Sig USA. Now, it is manufactured by German Sport Guns but they changed the name to the Swiss Arms SA22. The SA22 has definitely a much better reputation than the "old" Sig Mosquito. In general, the GSG products are of good quality. For some time, I've had a GSG 1911 and it's an excellent shooter. It's a 2015 model and has steel inserts wherever necessary e.g. at the slide notch. The previous models didn't have that. I've watched some You Tube videos showing the GSG 1911 after 30,000 rounds! Still running strong.

I stand corrected.

I have noted in the past that the GSG products seem to be good quality, and wondered why they didn't seem to have the issues the original Mosquito had. I'd been told that GSG made the original Mosquito- clearly I was misinformed.
