Good morning.

I remember reading about these pistols in the past having premature slide cracking issues due to the zinc alloy slides Umarex/Walther used for these guns. Does anyone know if the new models they make today use a different alloy that lasts longer? Or alternatively is anyone aware of any other 22lr handguns that utilize a paddle style magazine release?

Cheers.

To my knowledge Walther is the only one that did and did not bring that feature to the PPQ line because of resistance from US Shooters. I also read on the Walther Forum the paddle feature was very popular n some quarters. To me it would make a lot of sense shooting action shooting games, particularly for those with short thumbs.

Take Care

Do you know if the slide cracking issues on them got addressed in the newer production models?

I had a newer generation P22, not to be confused with the PPQ 22. I had zero issues with it as long as you run high velocity rounds. I would chose the PPQ .22 over the P22 though if you're looking for a polymer framed 22 but it doesn't have that paddle release.

Not the paddles are why I'm looking for buttons there seems to be a ton of excellent options ranging from the m&p 22 to ppq 22 to a ton of ruger offerings along with the gsg 1911 or even the colt 1911 22

Sadly i think that is my only choice for paddle mags.
