Walther P22

If it wasn't for the slide-mounted safety and the magazine disconnector, it would be a lot more attractive and it would sell a whole lot better.

(I wish that Walther realized that.)

shooting Walther accurately takes some practice. Frame is too light and grip is smallish, not the best trigger, crude plastic sights, a bit awkward mag release. But then again, I could tell a lot of bad things about Rugers, S&W's and Brownings. Those aren't any better than Walther P22, just much uglier. Now, when P22 stands out like a pretty blonde among fat ungly #####es, everybody sure hates her.

Another major drawback is that them Walthers never pretended to be target pistols. They shoot as accurately as anything else but do not have that targetish appeal. My Unique for example, has probably the worst mag release and slide release buttons but hey - this is A Target Pistol.

I found it to be a little small for me.

there are magazines for it that help to accomodate pinky. Or use it as a two-finger grip. I don't think there is any smaller restricted pistols on the market in Canada. Not to mention lighter. The biggest problem to me was getting used to trigger, which is not adjustable for over travel.

+ 1 on cases ejecting everywhere.
I still own my P22, only because I don't like to sell guns.

Cons
- The grip is very small, almost for most woman (As I bought it for my wife.).
- If you don't clean it after 200 + rounds you're going to have feeding problems. (Mine anyway.)
- The factory sights are god awful, might as well throw the gun at the target.
- Finding replacment parts are as bad, or worse then HK parts/mags.
- Mag disconnect is a bit of a pain in the ass, while trying to lock it up for transit.
-

Pros
- Very light. Could also be a con in some ways.
- Easy to clean and take apart. ( Even with the horrid barrel extention. More tools required though. )
- Ambi (Being a left handed pistol shooter, it's kinda nice to have an ambi mag release.) Though you almost get hand cramps reaching that far back to hit it.
- Free falling magazine.

I've given up with the P22, and moved onto a Ruger. Much better overall gun. Taking it apart is a ##### though. Good thing is, you don't have to do it very often.

Thanks for all the positive and thoughtful comments. I use the mag that lengthens the grip, and mine also has a choice of back straps, I use the larger one, and on someones advise I moved the front sight back into the slide sight hole and plugged the muzzle weight hole with the blank that plugged the slide sight hole. The muzzle weight can't be trusted not to move, I'm considering having it removed, and shortening the barrel, can someone please post a pic of a P22 that has been modified this way, meeting Canadian regs of course. thanks
