Hi, I have a question regarding to walther p99qa.
How is the .40S&w vs 9mm version of walther p99qa?
I mean I saw one second handed .40S&W in Reliable which is much cheaper than the new 9mm.
But the problem is how is the long run for .40S&W.
Is .40S&W more experience than 9mm in long term?
Plus I heard that .40S&W has a jamming issues.
Is it true?
Need some advise

I own a P-99QA in .40. The one single issue I had (other than the atrocious trigger) was the breakage of 4 outta 5 mag bases within 2 hours during a PPC course. After contacting Walther guru Earl of Earl's Guns in the US (who, by the way, claims that lives have surely been put at risk or lost due to what he believes is a flagrant manufactuing flaw), the culprit was identified.

The MecGar 10 round .40 mag bases clutch to the mag body via two fragile plastic grooves. Though I'd never broken a mag base in the year prior to my PPC course, the act of "slapping" fully loaded mags into my pistol during the stress of simulated competition literally blew apart four mags.

I remedied this issue by having custom aluminum mag bases machined for my pistol. Never had an issue since.

There are also different generations of magazines. See this link for most FAQ about the P-99. http://www.gunfaqs.org/P99FAQ/index.html

i had the same issue with my mecgar mags, i contacted walther usa, and am still waiting for the replacement bases and followers. they used a cheap plastic, and it just broke down. the new mags apparently are better. I bought 3 pro mags, and all of them worked flawlessly.

If you look at the rather miniscule groove that holds the base to the body, imagine 10 rounds applying pressure to these grooves. Now you come along and slap the bejesus out of the base when doing a mag change.

Earl swears that any OEM 10 rounder in .40 will eventually break. His only solution is to buy hi-cap .40 mags (which do not have the smallish grooves) and pin 'em. Or, as I did, have custom bases machined.

I'm not trying to tell you that my way is the only way. But I know what I know from experience and research. The mag bases I broke were of the 2nd and 3rd generation (light blue/medium blue followers). Both versions crumbled within a coupla hours...

They were willing to ship me four new mags under warranty. I asked if there was any production change and they said no. So between Earl's rant and my experience, I didn't bother. I had the alum. bases made up for me and that was the end of it.

My P-99 is my "defence" gun. I don't want to take any chances with reliability

A QA is sorta like a Glock. AS is a typical single/double-action. Trigger on a AS is nice, a QA (at least mine) needs a bit of work to make it liveable. Otherwise, your finger trigger cramps up within 100 rounds or so. Really! :p

compensators ?
Isn't compensator same as silencer?
Aren't they all illegal?

NO they are nothing of the sort.
Compensators will actually increase the noise signature of a fired round, but at the same time it will reduce recoil, and muzzle flip.
Silencers are used to reduce the noise signature of a fired round, which is illegal.

Tons of pro shooters will use compensators as they need to stay on target with each follow up shot. :)
