Hi

I am in negotiation with an elderly gent over the price of a Walther PP in .380acp. The Pistol in question is in like new condition and comes with one standard bottom mag. I figure early 60's production. Trigger is smooth, not the grooved type of later models, sights do not have the white dot or stripe.

Pistol is very accurate, has a great trigger pull, but one of the springs is tired as the hammer sometimes follows the slide home when firing. Nasty trigger backlash when that happens, but getting a new spring is not a big deal.

The old gent that owns the pistol in question is very set in his ways. I have never seen him shoot a pistol with both hands. Always the classic "Tea Pot" stance and he feels that people that shoot IPSC/IDPA are "Cop wannabees"
He uses the BLUE BOOK of gun values to tell him what things are worth as he has been out of the loop for years.

The "BOOK" tells him that the pistol is worth up to $900.00 bucks US. Tells me that he would go down to $750.00CDN. I offered $600.

Now, which one of us is "out to lunch?"

Imputs are welcomed

Even $ 600.00 is wayyyy to much !!!!
Prohibs like this PP go for $ 300.00 in like new condition.
I know a gent who sold a PPK, absolutly mint and unfired in box for $ 180.00 just two months ago....here in Ontario

He is out to lunch, .380 is worth more than a .32 to most people and is harder to get but that's way too much.

I have a friend with a .32 who is trying to get $200 with no success so far.

Just read your post again: only one mag ? no box and papers ?

The "Blue book" is a very fine Washroom reading material and beyond that totally useless !!!!

Even in the States with their relaxed gun laws, a prohib like the Walther PP sells for less than $ 500.00 in mint unfired condition with two magazines, box and papers.

Tell the guy to forget it, because soon you'll find another/better PP for a more realistic price.

At the last Easter gun show the going rate was $600-$800 for them. They are in big demand to get for rebarreling projects.

A rebarreled one could be worth around $750 due to the larger market (and cost of work involved), but a prohib is only 3-$400.

Howdy

Thanks Guys

I figured I was being nice at $600.

And like you said Polaris, just one mag.

No Box, no booklet, no test target with matching # , no mag with finger rest.

Two weeks ago I bought a PP in 7.65, R.F.V. I'll play with it. I have plenty of ammo.

I'm 42, have my 12-6, I figure time is on my side so I will wait it out.

Thanks again for your imput.

Hey sticker, we old farts will hang on as long as we can but it's good to know that these prohibs will go to younger welcoming hands.

I'm sure it's been wondered about before but how old is the youngest 12(6) holder, potentially?

Were they selling them for that much or was that the asking price. Also, it makes a difference if they are pre 1946.

Real Canadian prices for prohib buyers in Canada.

Between $350.00 to $450.00 for a like new prohib Walther PP in 380.

But way more $$$ for a prohib like new PPK in 380 ;)

32 prohib Walther? Way less.
