Can someone tell me about this gun? Is this ammo hard to find and why would they need to create another calibre?
Kind of neat.:D

Also known as 9mm ULTRA and 9mm POLICE. Was origially built for the German police, and not avaiable to civilians untill 1975. Was develpoed to be slightly more powerful than a .380 and be used in pistols such as the PP, SIG 230 and I think B76. Iguess at the time the full size 9mm pistols were considered to heavy and bulky so this was there alternative.

Ammo can be found in a couple places but is very expensive

9mm makarov is larger in dia. then 380acp, 9mmx19,and 9mmx18(ultra) yes you can cut down 9x19 but select your bullets so that they do not bulge the case at the web.

The German 9x18 is essentially a 9x19 only obviously shorter. They felt that 9x18 was the biggest and most powerful they could go in a straight blowback pistol. The head diameter is the same as standard 9mm ( .355/.356 ).
( 9mm Kurtz ( short ) is 9x17 & less powerful ).

The Russians took a slightly different approach. Blowback action, same 9x18 length case but a head diameter of .363. Their thinking was that if need be they could use the German 9x18 Super ammo but the Germans could not use the 9x18 Mak ammo.

I had both guns years ago. Very nice guns with the edge in fit & finish going to the Walther.
