Anyone know if these will be available in Canada, and when? Just read about it in G&A, looks cool to me.

The .40S&W P99 and the "target" P22 are the only handguns in the Walther line-up that have barrels over 105mm. Walther takes pity on Canada and adds 4mm onto the 9mm P99 barrels so they can be imported into Canada and sold to individuals as restricted firearms.

We have never seen factory extended barrels for the P99 Compact, the "normal" (3.4 inch) P22 or the PPK/S, and I suspect we never will. Some companies (Walther, Steyr and now SIG) are making 106mm barrels for their 4 inch (3.9 inch in the case of the SIG P229) guns for the Canadian market, but I highly doubt they will send even smaller guns (sub-compact) out of the factory with half-inch plus extended barrels.

The Walther PPS has only an 81mm barrel (3.2 inch). To import it into Canada for sale to individuals, it would have to have 25mm tacked onto the front end - almost a full inch.

This is a picture of my P22 with a 106mm barrel. The length of the barrel for this gun "should" (laws aside) be 3.4 inch (86.36mm), so the barrel on a 106mm PPS would stick out even more.

It's too bad...even if we went down just a tad on the minimum barrel length to 4", there would be a lot more options in Canada.

Walther has been running adds in some of the new gun mags that show the actual size of the PPS from the top. The dimensions are roughly the same as my P22 (in the above photo), the difference being that the breechface is further forward on the PPS. The slides are roughly lined up at the breechface in this photo.

This photo shows the 106mm barrel from my SIG P229R on the actual size photo of the Walther, showing how much the barrel would stick out (almost a full inch) if someone were to re-barrel one to comply with idiotic Canadian law:

I refuse to buy guns with extended barrels just so i can have the "Canadian" version. It's really not the same gun anymore, besides it just looks stupid to me. Just lookng at that extra barrel sticking out makes me think of training wheels that the government says i have to install just so i can have the same toy as a U.S. citizen. The 105mm rule really sucks , but there are still lots of good options for us.

I read the article. The writer really likes them. I got the impression though that he was thought the concept of a small, slim 9mm pistol is a new concept.
IF I am correct in my assumption then he has not seen the old S & W 3913 and some others.

As for coming into Canada, I doubt it.
