Walther Q5 Match steel frame first looks

I have a friend who is R&D for a certain firearms company based in Ulm, Germany. I just messaged him to see if he can spare one of these Wunderkind guns for a little review. If the red tape isn’t too crazy, it may just happen....fingers crossed if nothing but to make you guys jelly! I probably jinxed it here!
Sweet!!!

Well, whoever gets one first can have a coming out party. I just pre ordered one. Gonna slash if it goes past June. Sure Jimbo. I'll set up a little course and blast away.

That would be steep! A Shadow 2 would be considered a bargain. I hope the price point isn't that far from the S2 just to keep the pool interesting.

A Shadow 2 is a bargain!!!

Agree. The MSRP on the Walther SF is steep. Love my polymer PPQ M2 5” and got excited when I heard Walther was introducing a SF version, until I heard the sticker price.

We could use a stronger dollar. The MSRP from the Walther site lists the gun at $1,499US. At current exchange rate $1,935Cdn. So $2,049 is not all that unreasonable for a retail price in Canada considering the lower volumes our importers would be dealing with and all the costs involved landing them in the store here. I am beginning to get a buyers itch.

Apples and oranges. There are plenty of cheap guns out there if cheap is what you want. Look at all the CNC work on the PPQ-SF version compared to the Shadow. No comparison. It is a lot cheaper than any of the quality 1911's or 2011's and they are pretty simple to machine compared to the PPQ. So its all relative to cost verses supply and demand. I think its extremely fairly priced. Not everyone can afford one and there are other options for those folks. Rest assured, they will come down in price once they are out for a year.

My eyes are getting worse and worse, so it'll be red dot time at some point in the next few years. I will never go the dovetail adapter route, so I'll be buying a new gun for that. I like steel, not plastic. Easier to track a dot that moves less too, so steel it is! My interest is piqued. Looking forward to a party in Chilliwack!

Gun itself looks fantastic...price is another thing considering the wildly popular shadow 2.

My issue with Walther continues to be the lack of spare parts (unless that has changed in the last year)

People don't realize how tiny Walther is compare to CZ, what kind of massive production facility CZ is and what kind of volume discount they get on raw materials compare to little guys like Walther. Walther produces a fraction of what CZ makes annually. Not to mention the obvious - German vs Czech labour cost.

If you produce anything in high volume, the cost per unit goes down.

Warranty in Canada is one year to the original owner according to North Silva, the distributor. That said on my dime they had my M2 5" back to me within two weeks. They replaced the sear block assembly after the gun had gone full auto on me three times. I still am a fan but the absence of a life time warranty in Canada might be a distraction for some. For two grand it will be for me. The XFive works better for me with an Optic over the polymer PPQ Match. The steel version would be awesome but strikers do break under heavy use as do other minor but important parts.

I almost never care about warranty. What I want is the spare parts needed to get my gunninggoing again ASAP if something breaks

Warranties are good for frame cracks or significant damage. I’ll never send a gun away for something like a broken extractor

I agree. I was pissed though having to pay for a complete new sear block assembly. The gun was two years old and goes full auto....and postage there and back.

I will have to see if Brownells sells the bits and pieces one might need. I have only one other gun fail on me and that was an early M&P FS striker that was expected to break at around 5K. It did a bit earlier. Smith replaced the striker supplier and my striker with the newer version and life has been good since. Your point is well taken.

This was probably one of my top 3 pistols to get my hands on at Shot Show and it did not disappoint. The plan was to go from my Shadow 2 PO to this depending on how the trigger felt. For me it's probably one of of the best feeling striker fired triggers out right now. Hopefully wait times won't be crazy long.

Walther will be coming out with various grip replacement options, and remember, it comes with 3 plates for red dot sights and CZ will cost you around 100. each IF you can find the one you want in stock. So that's something of a 300.00 value included not to mention saving the hassle. Bonus.
