Does anyone know a load that uses Winchester 760 powder and 150gr. bullets (Sierra spitzer)?

I have some of each to use up. Both these components have worked o.k. in other combinations but I've settled on a favourite hunting load that uses neither this powder nor these bullets, so I want to put these leftovers together in a batch of ammo that will be just for range practice and fireforming some new cases to my rifle.

I have good results with 42 grains of IMR 4895 under a Hornady 150 grainer.

Your post says that you are just trying to use up the components so it looks like they are just for plinking with no great expectatiion for performance.
The first loading I ever put together (10 yrs ago) was Speer 150's with 46.0 grains of W760 in a Fed case with a Federal #215 primer.

My #11 Speer manual has its 150 grainer starting with 44.0 gr and a max of 48.0 grains of W760. Unfortunately, My notes don't include the results. I do know that they went bang and hit the paper.

Hope this helps. tbhupe

Had to laugh, too much reading in the precision forum, read this title as ".303 Bench Rest"
Anybody interested in working on the next great long range cartidge??? :D

Hey there, bigstickpilot, I have a 303 with which I can probably match or beat most anything you have except a good shortrange BR rifle. At 300 meters, it's tough to choose between the 303 and my 6BR. I think this 303 shoots just as well as the 308 I used to win the last 300 meter "F" class match I shot in. It's no joke!
At 100 yds, shooting for score, I've beat a bunch of 6 PPC's with this 303. I plan to use it more in this upcoming year.
With 150 Sierras and 760 powder it won't shoot real well but will do about 1/2 MOA. The load is way too hot for a Lee Enfield. For a Lee enfield, I would load about 47 grains, I think. Regards, Bill.

I've tried two recipes thus far with success.

Sierra Matchpoint 174 gr HPBT bullets used in both cases.
First with IMR3031 and a load of 36.5 worked, but I think it was a bit hard on my cases as I had to throw away two or three of them and they were only twice fired.
Second with Hodgedon 4895 at 34 gr charge I liked better, but I'm still tinkering and I shoot targets not animals, so I'm sure you would want a little hotter than this and a SP bullet, but if you're curious try out my loads... I still have all my fingers. :)

WOW, I'm truly intrigued! I assume the action is something special. Are you using an improved chamber and head spacing on the shoulder? For competition are you making your bullets or using a commercial match bullet? Please don't tell me you're using 150 gr Gamekings or my head might explode!
