So im going to be getting rid of my R700 soon and going to go about building or aquiring a 7.62 SASS type platform. My question is does anyone have experience with getting permits from the state department to import weapons or weapons parts from the US.
the 7.62 SASS AR10 isn't available for export (at least to us civvies). The upper isn't available either (I asked Wolverine). You could get the AR10 National Match from Wolverine in .308 (not 7.62 marked) and jazz it up with a PRS stock to be close to the SASS. I'm guessing it would be a special order.
What Brordo said. Can not be exported due to Dept of State stupid rule #964.3 due to the caliber as we all know 7.62x51 is FAR more dangerous than 308 Win
We can build a SASS clone based on DPMS upper and lower.
You do realize that the AR variants like the SASS are restricted, where as your 700 is not?
Ya I know I just wanted to switch up to a semi auto long gun.
Well thanks for the info guys at least that makes things easier, I was gonna go order the AR-10 through wolverine if this didnt pan out, just need to figure out which scope to put on it.
Exactly...why not put the R700 into that chassis system that makes it like a SASS (MDT Tac 21)? I'll be doing a build like that soon (after I finish my SASS clone with Armalite pieces). The actual SASS adjustable gas system wasn't too important to me as I won't be running a suppressor anyhow.
Just to let you guys know I have all the Armalite AR10 SASS parts, except for the barrel.
Wolverine can import all the parts, except for the barrel. There is nothing special about the barrel other than it has different journal measurements and the gas hole is bigger (.099"). I ordered all the parts last September and they just showed up 2 weeks ago.
The only "real" difference between an SASS and a target model is the charging handle and front rail & gas block.
I'll be having a barrel made for mine in the fall using a Lothar-walther 1-11.25 twist barrel, the same barrel used on the DND AR10's, I know because I have a retired one.
I went the NM route...all Armalite except for the PRS stock (which is what the SASS uses anyhow...unless I'm nuts) and Geissele DMR trigger. Still waiting on the stripped lower but it shouldn't be too much longer as I see they're now listed on Wolverine's site.
