want a lever action 22lr for 8yr old

While I don't have a lever, my 8 year old has a Henry bolt... and it is a great gun, and Henry is a fabulous company. The rear sight broke on my sons rifle, so I called them up and asked about buying a replacement as the gun was already several years old, and they sent me one gratis in 5 days without question. Very impressed.
 
My daughter (9) has the browning and its worth the money. Henry has a youth model, if your not totally set on the lever idea I got an marlin XT22 youth repeater for a spare kids rifle and its been a good one too. Around 200 bucks and takes the standard marlin mags with the profire(sp?) trigger and its light.
 
My boy is stuck on the lever action, we have a crapload of other .22s around,I guess that's where his head is at:),$299 (blued henery I take it?)sounds reasonable, left my laptop at work, does anyone know which dealer has em for that?
 
Its a tube mag with a spring rod in it. IDK if the youth henry has a slot in the bottom of the tube like the full size one but with my mares leg you have to remove the rod completely to load it from the front.
 
I'd go with the Henry lever 22 - solid gun and a lot of fun to shoot whether you are 8 or 88! You don't have to removed the rod in mine to load it and yes, there is a loading gate on the bottom of the tube. 15 shot capacity (22LR) and I wouldn't worry about getting the "youth" model...the regular version is pretty compact and the average 8 year old wouldn't have any trouble shooting it IMO.

You are describing it like its different then 99% of 22 lever action yet its not.
by loading gate on the "bottom" of the tube you mean there's a small hole cut near the "muzzle" end of the rifle, hence the need to looking into zee barrel while loading - Like 99% of 22 lever action

bottom end is not the muzzle end, a smaller hole is not a loading gate, you're trying to make it sound less awkward.

by "you don't have to removed the rod" you mean the rod still have to go all the way out like 99% of 22 lever action, hence the need to looking into zee barrel, its just on your henry the rod stay attached to the rifle.
 
No loading gate on .22 levers, but you don't have to look down the barrel to load it either.
Shells go in through the side of the tube mag.

I have a Henry H001 and I can tell you it is absolutely NOT necessary to look right into the barrel to reload it!

You see that little cartridge shaped cut-out on the SIDE of the tubular magazine?!

You can keep the rifle at, say a 70-80 degree angle pointed at the sky (but not your head!) or even a 30 degree angle pointed downrange. It will load either way...

My BL22 has the cut out as well, and it gets loaded while looking at the side/bottom of the rifle. Who in the HE!! would look down the barrel while loading it?!?

P.S - I have three Henry lever action rifles; a H001, H001T Frontier Octagon, and a H004 Golden Boy... all in LR... the are excellent, quality rifles... your son would love the H001Y youth model... definitely get the "YOUTH" version for him not the "ADULT" version as recommended above... I am 6'4" and 260 lbs. and can comfortably shoot the youth model... but if the adult LOP is too long for him, your son will struggle to shoot the gun accurately and it will lead to bad shooting form and habits.
