Want a quality "value" scope to grow with

Hi guys,

I'm looking for my first scope. I would like to buy a high value, decent quality scope and grow with it over time. I looked at the Burris Fullfield, Redfield Revolution, and Nikon Prostaff. However they do not have an AO in lower magnifications. An AO option is important to me because I would like to be able to mount it to rimfires as well as centerfires. I am looking for a 1.5-4.5, 2-7, or even a 3-9 with (although might be a little too big for my needs) with AO capabilities. I don't live in the prairies, but plan to hunt in wooded and hilly areas (Ontario), so I don't need anything massive. Keeping the Objective small would be great for keeping the weight down. I have heard good things about Weaver RV9. Where can I buy Weaver rifle scopes in Canada? Does Vortex have AO in low magnifications as well? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

From the lack of responses, I'm guessing there's no such thing as a do everything scope. Buy a dedicated scope for rimfire, and another dedicated scope for centerfire? Forget the AO?

Really not sure how to respond to this and I have come back here a couple times.
The only question that crosses my mind is, "why would you try and find an AO low
powered scope?"
And do they make such a beast?
I think high value wouldn't include the three you listed.
Just my opinion though.
Cheers.

You can buy a Zeiss 3X9X40, they are less than 500.00 and you can switch it from one to an other and it will last you a lifetime, cristal clear very good value scope for the price... Cheers. JP.

Skip the AO requirement and get a 2-7 Redfield. Under $200, and a great value.

Don't try to get a "do it all" scope... you'll drive yourself crazy trying to find the "right" one, and your shooting will not be improved any.

As a first scope, get the relatively inexpensive Redfield for your centerfire rifle, and if later on you want a scope on a rimfire rifle, get a rimfire scope.

There's no do it all scope when you're a gun nut. I have 2.5x20
4x32
6x40
2-7x32ao
3-9x40
6-24x44ao

For ontario hunting I find 6x to be what I use most and plan on a ziess or leupold for my next rifle. A quality 3-9x32/40 will meet your demands. I find unless shooting past 300 yards AO scopes aren't needed and in ontario shoots beyond 300 are kinda rare unless groundhogs and coyotes are your thing. Good luck

You don't really need parallax adjustment with the magnification ranges you are looking at. You're going to need two scopes anyway if you're going to own a rimfire and a centrefire rifle.

Leupold has a VX-II Ultralight 3-9x33mm EFR with AO that might fit your needs. Only 11oz and 11.3" long.
