Want to build a custom in a factory cartridge...which one?

So I want a med. range (250-300 max) moose/elk/bear thumper, and have decided on the following: Rem action (700 stainless...but could be talked into a ruger), barrel: 20" stainless, med. contour, fluted), stock: Laminate, really like the stock on my 700 mountain, would like another), short action preferred, optics will be a VXIII 2.5-8X36

I've picked a full spectrum of chamberings: .338 federal, 350 rem mag, 375 ruger

Which one?

Please discuss.

So lets see....suggestions for the .338 win, 7/08, and 358.....none of which are in the list

I have a 700BDL in 300win, a 700mtn in 7/08, and a 336 in 356win already.

Out of the three I listed what do you guys like over the other? Hmmm...I wonder if we'll see a .338 or 350 WSM sometime.

I took a moose with a 338 federal this year and it did a fantastic job. I made my cartidges from 308 Winchester brass and used 185 triple shocks. I love it.

Of the three I would go 375.

I'd go with the .338 Federal so ten years from now when you can't get cartridges for the others you can form brass for the .338 out of .308 shells.

You should seriously consider the 338 Remington Ultra Mag. I'm a big fan of it.
Or make the jump to the 416 Weatherby Magnum.

Ya sure it is overkill. But if it is a custom go all out.

bartell would say 338 Fed, and Gatehouse would advocate the 375 Ruger. So it all comes down to who you like/dislike more.
