Hi every one:
I'd like to buy a 17 HMR rifle with heavy or bull barrel. Which one do you recommend?
Ruger American, CZ 455 Varmint, Savage 93R17, or any options else?
Thanks!

I didnt see the real kind. Just heard from people that workmanship of bolt part is a little rough.

You should consider a ruger american rifle,i had the compact model, such an amazing little rifle and not expensive.

If those examples reflect your budget range, the CZ Varmint is head-and-shoulders the best of the three.

I'll second and third this as a good choice.
They are generally great shooters out of the box , not to mention well made too.
There have been one or two who are not satisfied with the CZ though.
You can search and read/decide for yourself on that though.
Ammo has been a challenge too..not to mention $22.00 for 50 ...

Now, if you wanna spend near a grand, there in an Anschutz in the EE right now and not overly priced for a lightly used .17hmr Annie too.

Pictures of what ever you decide too pleas...
Tight Groups,
Rob

I love CZs, and had a 452 Varmint in 17HMR I should have NEVER sold. The only thing I didn't love about it was the fact that it shot 20gr. HPs significantly better than the 17gr. V-Max I wanted it to. Definitely a finer rifle than a Savage by leaps and bounds~and I've owned 2 Savage 17HMRs.

When I wanted to get back into the HMR thing, I knew I wouldn't be using it a whole lot...so..I took a chance on a Marlin 917 heavy barrel. WOW does this thing shoot. I added a Rifle Basix trigger to it, and flew it out to AB for a gopher vacation a month or so back. :) Love this rifle now, and for the amount I use HMR..it makes sense to to me.

Somehow, the same make/model showed-up in 17M2 recently. :)

I've had my 93GV for 7 years, with accutrigger, 20" heavy barrel and topped with a 5-15x scope. It always comes to the range with me, it's so much fun to shoot. I've tried every ammo available except the 15.5gr NTX, I haven't come across any. Mine likes the 17gr best, especially the federal, but the 20 gr still group good for hunting. The 20gr get alot more penetration than the 17gr bullets. There are available 5 and 10 round mags, optic rails, a few aftermarket stocks and triggers as well.

I tried someones H&R Sporter once, it was very handy and just as accurate with the 24x scope.

You cant go wrong with an HMR.

I have a 93R17 thumbhole - so it came from factory with a Boyd's thumbhole stock instead of recycled plastic pop bottles. I figure that saved me about 200 bucks when, at some future time, I would want to get rid of the plastic for "something better".

It shoots well and the price was fair (somewhere around $450 when I got it).

Had no issues so far.

I had a savage 93R17 that was the biggest POS I have ever owned. In fact I gave it away because I didn't feel right about taking money for it. The overall quality of that particular rifle I had was terrible. Some guys are happy with theirs so maybe mine was just a lemon.

Oh, is it? Poor quality in what areas?

Just bought a 452 Varmint today in 17HMR. Can't wait to get it out to the range and give her a try. From what I've read it should be a shooter for sure. I looked for one of these for a while before I found one. It would be my first choice of the rifles listed as well.
Scott...

The trigger was down right ugly, lots of creep. The bottom metal became bent when i tightened the action screws, and the tupperware stock was touching the side of the barrel up near the front. Also the spring that powers the firing pin was weak and had to be replaced as it would fail to fire about half the time. Those were the issues that I had.

i love my savage 17 hmr hvy brl. from coyotes to chickens. amzing accurate. i tossed some camo paint on it. and a chunk of foam on the cheek.

OMG thats a sweet rifle. i held one for 30 secs and feel in love. my wallet said no. indeed you will shoot dimes at 100 meters.
