so, here is the thing.... i want a non-restricted assault rifle for shooting coyotes, gophers and such. i like the look of the old m-16, but want one that is very accurate. any opinions? if so, i would love them. also, if somone has what i'm looking for that they want to sell, i'd be interested. thanks.

Here are some to consider, in order of price:

AR-180B

Rob Arms M96

Swiss Arms Black Special

All three are available from board sponsor Wolverine Supplies (see their banner above, on the right), and all are non-restricted. They're all in .223, and the first two take M-16 / AR-15 mags. The AR-180B can be modified with a forearm and buttstock that make it look much more like an AR-15 / M-16 type.

Someone is going to give you flak for calling these "assault rifles" because that term is mostly used to refer to military issue, full capacity magazine, usually full-auto rifles.

Allow me to be the first ;)

Assault rifles are prohibited in Canada

The US military dictionary defines Assault Rifle as:
A firearm chambered for a cartridge that is intermediate in power between a rifle and a pistol, select-fire in nature, that is to say it is capable of firing in either semi-automatic or full-automatic mode with the use of a selector switch.

I believe what you are looking for or referring to is that of a non-restricted semiautomatic sporting rifle...I prefer to call them Sport Utility Rifles, or as our American brothers like to call them...Homeland Defense Rifles

:D

I think you need one too. Check with Wolverine Supplies for a price. I'm holding out for the Robarms XCR, myself.

the funny thing is, on the site it says available MID SUMMER! That was last summer, I guess it rolled over to this year. I too am waiting for the XCR.

Do yourself a favor and get the SIG then you can call yourself a gun snob :D and sh*it on anything thats not worth a months paycheck !

hey! my roots were born from the Ar-180B - I paid my dues!!

For what you want it for the SL-8 would be your best bet. It is heavy though. My 180B is very light, quite accurate but not as good as the HK.
