Want to find a .22 handgun.

When I was just a little kid living in the states a family friend of ours took us out shooting, I remeber shooting a .22 pistol that looked a lot like a 1911 except I remember it as being smaller. Does anyone have any idea what this could have been, as I would quite like to get one.

you can get a 1911 22 conversion kit or a straight out 22 1911 from kimber.

Yea, but from what I remember it was quite a bit smaller than a standard 1911..

Well... quite a bit smaller would probably mean below 106mm....

I believe it was Llama that made a mini 1911, which is as you describe - looks identical to a 1911 Gov't, but a fair bit smaller. I looked at one not too long ago at a local gun show, and would have bought it, but it is 12(6). Don't recall the designation and/or model number.
