hey guys i have bought a houge 12 in LOP stock set, and i am wanting to take the foreend off, but dont know what to use as a tool. i dont want to break anything either. i have never removed a foreend before, and assume you need to remove this nut on there with 2 slots in it?!? what does everyone else use for this jjob, or where do i find one? many thanks in advance guys!

A proper 870 foreend removal tool would do.

Or, you can go the cheaper route and use needle nose pliers, scissors, the end of a crowbar, a large(wide) file, etc etc

Or you can get a small piece of metal pipe(3 inch min) from the hardware store with a 1 inch inside diameter and then shape the end to match the nut.
I used a hacksaw and a file for tools and held the pipe in a vise while I shaped it. If the nut is loose hand pressure alone will work and if it's tight you might need to use a pipe wrench or large vise grips.
You could also drill a hole through the pipe at the opposite end of the toothed part and then insert a metal rod to make a T-handle.

If you're not into projects you could buy one or just take it to your local shop and let them do it for you....should be pretty cheap to free if you are a regular.

I just ordered one from Brownells last month. They shipped it out quite fast. Once I had it, I had the forend nut off and my new Hogue forend on in place of the factory forend. Go to their website and put in this stock #080-870-202. This is for the Rem 870.

Actually, I ordered some other things as well and they ended up discounting everything, the wrench came out to $34 or $37. And the amount they discounted actually covered the shipping and a bit more. I just placed another order with them few days ago.

I used a pair of needlenose plier the first time. But then I used a pair of welding pliers. They worked perfect for changing the foreend of my Rem 870.

Since you are a welder, you probably have them around. I have this pair from Princess Auto. Worked great!
