I am thinking of getting into muzzleloading to expand my hunting oportunities. I want to know if it is possible to trade for a good used rifle for guns in the price range of $150. I do not want to go out and buy something new as I am in school and I do not know if I will enjoy it.

Any ideas on what I can do?
 
I've seen CVA's go for around $175, they are good value for your dollar. The only thing you have to watch is the lock internals wear prematurely, but parts are available.

Hi,

We need to know what type of muzzleloader style you are interested in. There is the historic replica stuff (i.e - Sidelock / flintlock), or modern inline.
 
Looking at something for hunting, I am 23 so sights are no problem but I would like to go cap, inline or traditional, the ranges would be less than 100 yards.
 
The modern inline models are cheaper unless you stumble across a heck of a deal on a percussion model. Inlines don't have the nostalgia though.
 
I do not need the nostalgia at this point, just want to be able to get into my camp and have another crack at a deer in the winter at this point, if I enjoy it there will be some antiques in my collection soon enough.

I don't think there is any comparison between extra season guns and traditional muzzle loaders. The first is just a modern rifle gimmick to get you extra time while the second you buy for nostalgia and in the case of the higher end ones and the originals, for an appreciation of the skill and artistry that went into them as well as the history associated with them. Bottom line is that I don't see extra season guns inspiring a person to try traditional ones.

one of the best blackpowder seasons was lost in b.c. due to the modern muzzleloader,i/e. extra season gun, the authoritys seen it as effective as a modern rifle and shut down the season it was in the ft.st.john, dawsen creek area, you used to see primitive camps there with a lot of province wide buckskinnners hunting there to bad its gone, i think theres some good used t.c. muzzleloaders, modern or primitive, come up on gunnutz from time to time, wade
