Want to get started in CAS info needed.

Looking at it from another point of view you can go the Warthog route & also shoot in the Working Cowboy Class. I use 45 Schofield loads in my Uberti SAA's, a 44/40 MOdel 66 rifle and a SXS 12 Ga with hammers. The class involves one handed pistol shooting with smokeless or black powder. I agree with the Cold Lake Kid about the friendly CAS folk. there is always someone that's willing to help you out.

Cowboy?

I have noticed that no discussion has been made to include BLACK POWDER type shooting. ORIGINAL cowboys did not have or use 38 anything with a 90-125 grain pill. 38-40, 44-40, and 45 Colt were the flavor of the day with 200-250 grain bullets.
In cowboy action shooting the traditional class is by far the largest but the calibres are anything but "traditional". Traditional class is determined by the fact that you use non-adjustable iron sights on your revolvers.
Most clubs have a B.P. class which allows cap and ball as well as cartridge guns in the same class but I have been to more than a half dozen shoots where the cap and ball shooters are in a separate group from the cart. boys.
Race gun guys all use the 38-357 type guns.
I saw a pair of uberti's wore out in 2 seasons by one guy that shot a medium amount but shoots real fast. He went to Rugers and is still using them after four years.
Food for thought!

Rugers are good, I put over 20,000 rds of .44 Mag/.44 Special through mine before the transfer bar broke. Once I got the part it took 20 minutes to fix the gun and cost around $10. There are a few guys who shoot BP in CAS, but not many.
