Want to show off the old DAME

Well the wife calls out and say's I got a present for you!! In her hand and well packaged is the third sister in my newly started collection. Well packaged but gritty with sand and when I took the wood off dirty as hell. Bore was grimy, so out comes the solvent and she cleaned up pretty good. Don't know if I will redo the stock on this one but for sure will get a proper front sight blade. Other than that the barrel bolt and magazine are all matching numbers. Here are a few photo's of the three old gals a 1945,1946, and 1947 all are Original No.5 Mk1 (ROF) F.
Need a bayonet !!!!!

Hello,

I also have a nice original No5 Mk 1 and just love it, it is my favorite deer rifle,... have been debating refinishing the wood too as there is one nasty scratch in the foreend.
Anyway, I was looking for a bayonet and a buddy found me one at a gunshow, it is a remanufactured bayonet with scabbard, and I bought the bayonet frog to go with it. I was told that the remanufactured ones do not fit properly but mine was perfect, matching the wood colour and everything .

Here is a link to a place where I saw them ,... for the price you might want to consider it until you find and original one

good luck and great job on your collection !

I refinished mine in Boiled linseed Oil , no sanding just lightly 0000 steel wooled and am going to seal them with a beeswax finish, the numbers on the stock really came back up. I read some where that Walnut turns out dark red or rusty brown and maple turns out blonde also the beech stock are light simular to maple but not as light. I don't know how true that is but it looks to me like I have one of each. I also have Okie go no-go and field gauges to check the head space so far all three of my bolt heads are No.1 the front sight blade on the darker carbine is high compared to the others and I will have to see where the point of impact is before changing. When I was a kid these No5 Mk1's were going really cheap and so was the ammo. Most of the surp ammo has dried up now but I did recently do a deal for a bunch of 180gr. soft point hunting rnds. (750 rnds) and I think the issued ammo was 174gr. if memory serves me. So it looks like I will be busy reloading up at the cabin when my chores are done lol !!!
The two I have are post war (1946,& last year of production1947) as per the metal cap, the one like yours in the photo is dated during the war. The one I have with out the metal cap is dated 1945 There were a few experimental metal end caps during the war years but not many. Look near the fore end on the under side of the stock, are there any numbers there that are the same as on your reciever or bolt or barrel?
Your carbine looks to be in good to very good shape, now you need to get a period sling for it buddy.
Regards
Jack

Your collection seems to be growing rapidly, congrats. I have a couple #4's and you have me thinking I'd like a #5 to go with them.
I may as well get a #1 #2 #3 while I'm at it.

Yes I seemed to have over dosed on No5 Mk1's lol !!! My wife says that its time to get over it lol !!!! All it started out was looking for a gun for the cabin and truck but then it kind of took a life on of its own!
I'm gonna be Jones'n soon lol !!!!

Actually Mary-Ellen (Married44yrs) was helping me boil the water to soak the stocks in to raise the cosmoline, and oils off of the stocks. And then helped scrub the rest of the crud off too. She is into firearms as well and packs a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 for deer and when I'm out hunting up at the property she keeps it close by. She was right in there helping to alter her bolt handle so it would clear the scope in the medium base and rings we fitted on her carbine. It turned out really good and the rebluing was not too bad either. I can't decide which jungle carbine I like best lol !!! When we can get to our place I have a 200 yd range up there and will try all three to see which has the better accuracy with all that ammo bought. I will take some photo's and post them. I am trying to get a hold of my welder buddy to see if I can get some steel plates cut. That Hickock45 has made me hot to trot for ringing some steel, he was on you tube shooting his No5 Mk1 and I think that was the start of all this lol !!!
