Want to try this AR15 nonsense...

I see you ordered some parts to remove the barrel. It's very important that you get yourself an AR15 Upper Receiver Action Block, or you'll be buying another upper mighty quick. I hope you have a solid, larger vise too.

BTW ... it doesn't matter if the parts aren't period correct. It matters that the gun work properly when you go shoot it and that you have fun. You'll be changing parts for the rest of your life anyway now that you got the bug. :p

I think I'm correct about the Olympic upper. Looks like your whole kit is an Olympic Arms 'cept the barrel. ... check this out:

Well, if I’m getting into the AR15 fetish, I may as well buy the tools.

So I ordered both vise blocks that you suggeted, and it only adds another $100 to my “first build”. ( Can always sell them on EE if my little darling blows up in my face).

From looking at the prices of, specifically, Upper parts… I must say I’m happy as a pig in #### with all the crap I got… they might be rough and beat, but really… 75 bucks.

All the Lower stuff seems to be dirt cheap.

But yes, Easy, this could very well be the Olyarms ( never heard of them) product, maybe they built a “Carbine Plinker” in the past, and this is the remains of it.

Who knows? No numbers at all…on anything.

Olyarms Barrel w/suppressor, looks exactly like mine… 168 bucks…

Upper receiver…$600 bucks!! (But A2 style… not like mine at all) ….

BUT … look at their “Plinker” model ! Looks like the A1 upper and all that. So yeah… it might just be an old, parted-out, Olyarms at that…

Anyways…ordered a gallon of Brownells manganese phosphate juice and I’m going to try my hand at Parkerizing. ( Think I’ll start with my 1942 Colt 1911A1 Commercial Renumber…haha…is joke for Milsurp guys!! I keed, I keed…).

Seriously, I’ll re-park all the steel parts on this AR15 … I have the bead-blaster and all the normal tools to strip it down completely, so what better test-bed than a Franken-rifle.

I'll admit that being a milsurp guy I tend to look for matching numbers and correct components, but it's glaringly obvious that my particular AR15 is going to end up as a dogs breakfast of parts and stuff ... hey as long as it looks good and goes Bang, right?

Can’t wait for all this stuff to come in !! This IS a cool hobby, haha!!! Friggin’ poodle shooters!!

Thx again to all !

In general, AR15's aren't collectible unles sthey are early Colt or something - so I say mix and match as much as you like. The only serialized part is the lower receiver.

Just make it functional and reliable, then go shoot the p!ss out of it.

Note to Jamie ( a bit late!! )... If I ever finish this thing I'll GIVE you the buffer tube. Serious. Just don't know what I may or may not need yet.

Haven't done much on it except pull it all apart, but been too busy to park the bits and pieces. but I DID start collecting parts and stuff...

1) Wolverine had Armalite lowers a while back and I got one. I still want to build an M16A1 clone, and it will get this receiver. Way future project.

2) Found a very cool place for A1 parts... so I bought a bunch!

3) Reverse of the parts... the carbine handguards do not have aluminum liners??? Is this normal?

Now, I think all I need is a bolt and all the crap that goes with it... wish things would slack off a bit around here so I could play at this. Too busy trying to save the BHP!! Haha!!

Great thread. Good luck on the build and I might follow in your footsteps one day and try my hand a build like this, might not be the A1, but starting from scratch. keep us posted.
