I am developing a new product that requires an accurate CAD file of the M14 barrel, receiver and trigger groups.

If you want to be a part of this project, I can offer you one of the manufactured part(s) for your M14 and 1 of any future parts that I produce.

Once the CAD file is complete, I would offer the CAD file as an open source download so as to promote the manufacture of other M14 parts.

If you want to help grow parts for the M14, please PM to discuss.

Thank-you.

Get out the micrometer and Inventor.

I looked for an M14 receiver CAD drawing for a while, but gave up. There is quite a few AK47 and AR15 lower drawings floating around though.

I've got the PDF, Send me a PM with your Email and I'll fire it off to whomever wants it. I warn you, you better be pretty good at reading Blueprints!

The only CAD files I know of are in the US and cannot be exported due to US law.

You can buy a copy of the ones I had done though :D.

fair enough too.
Supra is already offering innovative VZ and M14 parts.. that's community spirit right there

Agreed. But, if I may offer an analogy with Linux, an open source operating system. In some Brazilian communities, the Microsoft OS is simply not affordable. Along comes Linux, an open source and free OS and suddenly PCs are flourishing. Productivity increases and even the poorest communities have a PC on which to learn.

"Open source is an approach to the design, development, and distribution of software, offering practical accessibility to a software's source code. The term open source gained popularity with the rise of the Internet, which provided access to diverse production models, communication paths, and interactive communities."

"The open source model of operation and decision making allows concurrent input of different agendas, approaches and priorities, and differs from the more closed, centralized models of development.[1] The principles and practices are commonly applied to the peer production development of source code for software that is made available for public collaboration. The result of this peer-based collaboration is usually released as open-source software, however open source methods are increasingly being applied in other fields of endeavor, such as biotechnology."

Imagine what "we" as a "real community" could do with access to information never before available?

It would be fantastic!

It takes a noble, self-less spirit, one unfocused on the monetary system, to bridge people and ideas and move forward for all.

Just my thoughts.

Have a great day guys.

I will ask the engineer who did the drawings if he is interested in offering his time up to create drawings on an open-source basis. If he agrees then you're good to go.

Or everyone can chip in enough to cover the costs and I'll post up CAD files for all to see :D.

Till then this aint Brazil and I aint in the computer biz. :p

I will pitch in Supra, let me know. Do you have (FRAUD ALERT)? If so, I am set up. If we can pitch in little by little and make it an open source CAD offering, seriously folks, it could go a LONG way to making new parts available in Canada. I'll be the first.
